How to Gauge Range

Gaging range is a nightmare of a time as Riot's unit's dont make a ton of sense without a reference point. So here are some reference points! 700 range https://i.stack.imgur.com/ZhZVz.png 400 range (maximum forward distance) http://img3.mmo.mmo4arab.com/lol/2015/08/10/rfc2640.jpg 125 range (basically mele) https://i.stack.imgur.com/EkNrc.png A lane is about 800-850 units Wide (It varies on where you are) http://img6.mmo.mmo4arab.com/lol/midlane_ganking/midlane03.jpg Vision of an unimpaird champion is 1100 units http://i.imgur.com/SZAh6HX.jpg 550 Radius effect (1100 units across) https://i.ytimg.com/vi/pDNvuZu6kgQ/maxresdefault.jpg 100 radius effect (200 units across) http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-h78lx8m0-hA/U47eKOXCraI/AAAAAAAAQ0M/HXQjgafYad0/s1600/karthusq.jpg

I think it would be nice to have a rapidfirecannon type of indicator as a toggleable option in settings. I can understand AA range being something you need to learn but ffs there's 136 champs in this game.

also rapidfire cannon's indicator isn't overbearing to look at the whole game.

I'm not sure if I understand exactly what you mean, but there is a setting that lets you turn autoattack range on so you can see your range when you press 'A'.

I think he wants a more permanent option. A definitely helps, though.

i know that, what i'm talking about is kinda the same but permanent.

If you ever build rapidfire cannon ingame you will see an orange(?) circle around your character whenever it's charged. this indicates your new range so you know it extended.

The main reason i refer to that instead of the A button is because it just looks better. the A button turns your AA into a click on and just gives you a skill indicator. This would not only look bad but it would also be in the way.

considering how important it can be for champs to AA at max range it would be helpful. ex.: post level 9 Caitlyn (650) vs jinx(700) now often when i trade cait will be able to trade back because i don't know the exact distance i need to be to hit, but not be hit by, caitlyn. if i have RFC tho, i can because i will know exactly what my max range is, when they are in it and i know she can't hit just because i know which champ has further range.

It has to be toggleable, not everyone will want it or even need it and i personally wouldn't use it for melee champs. Maybe the A button could just be turned into a toggleable version.

Yeah, if they added like a faint blue/white circle (as opposed to RFC's orange) for standard auto range or at least as an option to turn on permanently, I'd be very happy.

You can script it in (legally, too)

probably, i wouldn't need to if riot implemented it.

This would actually be really easy to implement and very useful.. If it's toggle-able in the settings, it would cause any problems and it would make life a lot easy, especially for newer players. Imagine how much easier it would be to learn ADC if you knew your max range and where you could be without being there.

Instructions unclear. How many Teemo-lengths is that?

Leetri1 votes

One Teemo is like 100 units I believe.

Something I've been doing since season 1. Good comparisons though!

This isn't perfectly accurate is the problem, and that is because there are two separate range systems utilized by the game.

Edge to edge (Auto attacks and auto attack based abilities all use this) and Center to Center (Spells and item actives use this).

SH Azykan1 votes

several other abilities also use edge to edge

Steelflame1 votes

Most of those being auto attack based (Such as MF's Q after the changes so that it will adjust with her range changes from things like Rapidfire Cannon).

95%+ of spells use the center to center method, or at least center to hitbox for skillshots.

The wiki clears this up pretty well.

"Given a source unit's hitbox and a target unit's hitbox, range is calculated as follows: autoattack range from edge to edge; targeted skill range from center to center; skillshot range from edge to edge; and the range of self-centered area of effects are from the edge of the source (the larger champions don't benefit less from auras than smaller champions). The difference is approximately 100 (i.e. 550 autoattack range is roughly 650 casting range)."

Hey, this is a little plug for a competition going on in Concept and Creation's right now, but there's a tournament going on for Champion ideas. Check it out and see what you like or what might be a fun addition to league. https://boards.na.leagueoflegends.com/en/c/skin-champion-concepts/TeRqTxRI-ccos-june-ccos-entry-time-enter-here There's still time to enter for anyone who wants to

I remember the unit width of a lane solely because of release Zyra's ultimate xD
