We should've gotten more free rune pages with the update

New runes aren't boring stat sticks like old ones, so you really can't build a, say, "Generic AP" page and expect to use it on most of your AP champions. They are basically masteries, a system for which Riot deemed customization was important enough to give us 20 pages for it. I'm not asking for 20 free pages now - IMO 5 should've been bare minimum to cover most of the archetypes with one page; utility, burst AD, sustained AD, AP, tank/fighter. And no, I don't count horrible preset runes as those are useless to anyone except new players. When was the last time you followed a champion's recommended build to a T? Same shit here.

"But Weiss" I hear you say "Giving those away would screw over people who bought pages with RP". That didn't prevent them from screwing over people who bought tons of runes now, did it? Similiar to pages, you could grind up IP or spew out some cash to get them faster - directly for pages, and buying IP boost for runes.

"But you can change them in champion select". Yes we can. And it's a bloody big inconvenience since you can only build pages for 2 roles. You aren't playing one of those two roles this game? Too bad, you'll have to rebuild one of your pages from zero, and the clock before the game starts is ticking. With 20 mastery pages this wasn't an issue, since with that many options you'd have to do minor changes at worst.

This is finally a complaint about the new season that i agree with. My only complaint is that they dont give us more pages.

DrCyanide11/9/2017, 9:15:40 PM4 votes

I'm coming into the season with 16 Rune Pages, so I'm as biased as someone with 2 Rune Pages but on the opposite end of the spectrum.

I haven't looked at the Preset Rune Pages, but if they were modified to fit your Utility/Burst AD/Sustained AD/AP/Tank or Fighter setup would that be good enough?

Riot isnt trying to make money off of the playerbase's Generally laziness or inability to read, infer, and apply information quickly. give yourselves some Credit for godsakes.

It would be nice if you could build a temp rune page in champ select. The system as it stands is kind of dishonest.

riot: "Hey you get 2 free rune pages, 5 pre sets and you can always cook one up during champ select" us: "But if you do that last option you have to over write one of your preset pages. So its like you only have 1 rune page."

temp rune pages would solve this problem, as well as make it more adaptive. Pick a base preset runpage, tweak it for your match up, and play. Currently if you do that, you have to untweak it later. ~~ I realize that this would be a pain to code depending on how they code the pregame. The would have to send the rune data along with the champion data to the game builder instead of just referring to rune page and pulling it later.~~ Wait never mid, just have a shadow rune page that get built and loaded if some one picks a temp page. Keep it hidden in other screen, easy peasy.

or just give out 1 or 2 more rune pages. enough that people can play the game and not die of frustration but enough that incentivizes them to actuality buy them as well.

Everyone knows why riot did this but it's still disgusting. They just want to force people to pay more money, I was actually excited for the new runes until I got a chance to use them and blue essence and see what it's like.

I would be fine if they give us 1 customizable rune page, you can literally edit them in champ select. Why would you ever need more than 1? Heck they even give you FIVE basic ones for those who don't feel like making their own.

Rebonack11/10/2017, 4:27:43 PM2 votes

I've got eleven of 'em from buying pages in years gone by. Of course, I've been here since beta so whatever.

You can edit pages in the pre-game lobby. It's only six choices, so the process really doesn't take that long.

I got all my 20 pages from last time, did they not bring over the pages you owned before?

SpiritOfOdysseus11/10/2017, 11:06:42 AM1 votes

Yeap! tell me about it. Now we have to buy them (after we spend the BE we gained for the update of course) with BE, which is extremely hard to come by. Or spend real money ofcourse!

Frankly they should make rune pages work like item sets, which you can effectively have unlimited of and you can have them tied go a specific champion.

I have 8 pages? Is my account glitched or did Rank/Honor give me more?

StarGuardianWeeb11/10/2017, 4:25:38 PM1 votes

So do you like you said in your very own post and grind some IP or spend some RP. Riot has already said that since making runes free is going to be a hit to their profits they've already decided that people who need pages will still need to buy them if they want them or grind them out. It was intentional. I had to spend 6,300 huge chunks of dust that I got three times just so that way I had a page for each Rune path. Sucks but I'm glad I don't need anymore of those shitty stat runes eating another 10K into it.

Mcsquzzy11/10/2017, 2:35:50 AM1 votes

I need to grab 1 more rune page so I can at least have 1 page for each main rune but I would need 20 if I wanted to cover each main and sub combination

Terchio11/10/2017, 4:29:40 PM1 votes

Main problem here:

Before, a new player could farm up the 450 IP champs and use similar Runepages (which probably is what most of the old Runes hubbub is about) for everybody, roll with just 2 Runepages of cheapo runes until you could afford more drastic upgrades.

Now a new player gets 2 450 BE champs, but can't roll over as easily, so the third will cost him 450 BE plus 6300 BE for the page.

Why is there a cost at all for Runepages? It might have served as the defining reason that Old Runes got cut. The benefit simply wasn't enough to offset the cost, and it only served to put off players into quitting and set back players from legitimately playing the game. Get rid of this "Pay to Win" crap, it wasn't worth it then, and it most certainly isn't worth it now in the new system.

I swear, sometimes it's almost like Riot doesn't want profits...

People have been complaining a lot about blue essence but I think this is by far the biggest issue with the new season. The new runes are so unique that two similar champions will have very different runes, even though in the old system they could use the same runes and masteries. Like you could have one rune page in the old system for 90% of adcs and most ad bruisers. So limiting the number of rune pages people could have wasn't a big deal. In the old system you just had 20 mastery pages which I think was appropriate becasue you could cover a wide variety of champions with them.

I know the new system is called runes reforged but they are more like masteries than runes. The old runes simply gave stat increases while the old materies gave a wide variety of stats, abilities, and buffs. Runes reforged are clearly more similar to the old mastery system, so we should have the same amount of rune pages now as we did mastery pages.

I realize that you can change your rune pages in champ select but that just makes the game so unenjoyable. I can now longer just pick my champ, select my masteries, then talk to my friends or afk for water/bathroom. Every champ select now feels like a race against the clock to make a rune page that fits the champion I am playing, when it should be a time to talk to my team about our team comps, strategy, and just enjoy talking to other league players.

I just made a thread similar to this. I don't agree with having to pay for convenience. We have access to all the runes anyway, we should be able to organize them as we please instead of rushing around pre-game to make something that works. It's actually a bit stressful.

ModAcademy Kayn11/10/2017, 6:03:56 AM1 votes

That didn't prevent them from screwing over people who bought tons of runes now, did it?

Depends if your definition of "Screwing people" includes people getting long term use out of a product that they bought never expecting a refund in the first place. Some argue that if Runes didn't exist, people could've bought more champions instead, I'll argue back that it was a conscious decision of them to choose Runes over Champions, and that they've made their bed and should sleep in it.

Cowseed11/10/2017, 10:20:32 AM1 votes

I wouldn't mind the pages if the runes didn't switch while I was editing them. I could eventually learn all the runes and then pick what I want with the same easy as the old system. But champ select seems to be somewhat slower in terms of responsiveness and as I stated before the runes cut me off before I get to finish setting them.

Give me one or two extra rune pages or make it smoother to change don't care. As long as I can pick the runes I want/need I'm good. But i'm rather annoyed when I can't.
