After playing a couple PBE's, here is why I think Poppy is going to be VERY HIGH TIER Support.....

As a Jung/Top main myself, I was pretty bummed about the ult. It doesn't bring anything to the table for a good gank or engage. However...

This is why I am starting to think Poppy is going to be God Tier Support. Here is why:

You won't need damage late game.

  1. Q has a slow with some minor damage
  2. W can block annoying dashes (i.e. Lucian, OP Graves, probably kalista passive)
  3. E can be not only a disengage to save your adc, but an awesome ENGAGE is you land it against a wall.
  4. R can make a fight instantly a 2v1 and turn the tides in your favor

The more I think about it. I HATE the ult, but this poppy kit is set up to be an INSANE support. Full tank with all that CC and engage/disengage....

I still think late game that ult is going to be meh though. With the MS items and masteries in the game, the amount of time it would take for someone to get back to the fight is going to be pretty quick...especially if the enemy has a thresh..

Thoughts on Poppy support? anyone try it also?

I, as a support main, saw her ult and was super happy honestly. I liked playing her as support before but never did it seriously because it's not a meta pick and honestly was only Aight at best. I'm kinda seeing/hoping that you're right and she'll be a much more versatile champion with a much stronger botlane presence .

I'm a Support main and my go to Tank is Alistar, they are surprisingly simmilar, so I think she will become my alternate now.

Played against it a couple times. I think it sucks. The laning is just waaaaaaaay too shit. Her trading is so easy to punish anytime she makes even the smallest mistake because she has to get so close to Q and you can unload on her with both people before she can pick up the buckler from her passive, she gets poked out easily, her engage is easy to predict and play around and you just break her over your knee if she goes in with E at the wrong time, she can't pressure at all without going all-in, etc. Played against her with Karma and Sona and didn't feel even the slightest hint of a threat. By the time midgame hit, she was useless.

Basically, her engage is too situational and she's worthless in the laning phase without engaging. I'd take Thresh for the much safer engage or Leona for the much more reliable engage anyday. I'd be happy to play her as a support if I didn't have to lane, but that's not an option.
