The sightstone Issue

I have seen a couple post on the gameplay boards about getting sightstone as a support. Here are my thoughts.

  1. Sightstone is a very valuable item, which is why I buy it as a support main.
  2. Vision is not the supports job, it is a team game. If I don't see three vision wards four vision wards on the map then the team is effectively missing out on a sight stone
  3. Telling supports that already get item makes them less likely to get it. For me I like to read, if I am told to read a book, I will hate every step of it.
  4. Queue issues. Support is the fastest, and least rewarding role as decided by the community. Playing an aggressive support, or a mage support is one way to ease the boring inability to carry a team, often a small amount of ap would go a long way in pushing for damage that is much needed.
  5. some support/adc's don't need sightstone right away. For example; Zyra Jhin Teemo (for those that can pull it off)Caitlyn Heimerdinger (same as teemo) (there might be others that I am forgetting.

I believe Sightstone has a direct impact on making support the least desirable class to play as for many players. The problem is that it doesn't feel rewarding to buy even though it is quite valuable. Buying it feels like a gold sink to the most gold-starved class. You may have just been effectively poking the other marksman in lane and hoping to come back to continue that pressure but... they went back and bought too... and now they are actually stronger and you have to be more scared of them than they are of you. People don't want to be, essentially, forced to buy an item that makes them feel as though they aren't becoming more powerful.

I am constantly amazed at how top lane mid lane jungler and adc players have an opinion on what pauper is supposed to be doing and how pauper should be and must be played down to champion picks.

I am constantly amazed at how vocal these people, who would not touch the role with a 10 foot stick, allow themselves to be with respect to trying to coerce the pauper to play a certain way.

I play pauper a lot and here is my opinion:

  1. I will do me and you will do you
  2. The top lane and the jungler should split the burden of picking a tank for the team.
  3. if all lanes are winning the jungler must get a sight stone also. yes you're going to become a "second support" stop whining.

Honestly I usually build a sightstone when playing support. That being said, the moment anyone tells me how to build or how to play my champ is when I start doing the exact opposite of what they are saying out of spite. I chose support. I know how to play it and I can play it well. Don't tell me what to do; just focus on your own thing and together we'll make some glorious plays. Otherwise, I'm going to take your kills and become the snowballed sona and you will starve.

Still doesn't give you an excuse to never build it because you are entitled, and when someone tells you to do something constructively you bitch and whine like a little child.

I really don't get why people think it's mandatory for support to buy item 2049. As a support, I might decide to get item 3092, item 3069 or item 3401 (stuff that can actually help during a teamfight). That leaves me with item 2045 as the only thing I can build item 2049 into and it's really not that good unless you have a few items with long cooldowns on their actives. If I understand the risk of not getting item 2049 and if I feel confident that can keep us safe bot lane without it, then I shouldn't be harassed for not buying item 2049 (in all fairness, it also means I should know when we really need the extra vision). Everyone has a free ward option available and support isn't the only role that has a ward item. Jungle has item 3711 that they can use as well and they are also in a far better position to light up the map anyway. Vision items are supposed to be a tactical option like item 3033 and item 3152, not a requirement.

The problem i believe with support(this is just my thoughts and why i dont play it) is that you kinda feel like an after thought. Probably because the items you build are unattractive and in this meta where damage is out of control they feel pointless. The reason perhaps that thresh is played so much is because he feels more impactful then most of the supports and is able to stat better then the other supports. I feel like Support needs an update like every other class has had, but unlikely it will happen. So its no surprise no one plays support when riot hasn't really shown them love.

Health is a really strong stat early on, so I don't feel bummed about "having to" buy a sightstone. I wanted to buy health anyway, and a bucketload of vision is the strongest thing I can buy with the other 400g. Frees me up to play as aggressively as I want without fear of ganks, etc.

why is Heimerdinger listed as an ADC ? he gets destroyed at the bot lane as ranged champs just delete his turrets.

Not building sightstone on a support is the same as not building AD on Zed or AP on Veigar. It's just plain stupid not to do it.

The ward limit really bugs me. It just gimps me so hard when my team doesn't know a Pink ward costs 75 gold to pick up.

Maybe getting a Sightstone should up the ward limit to maybe 4? The Eye upgrades it to 5 and the Red Sightstone ups it to 6? I dunno. Just a thought to make things better for Support players who wants to impact the game more.

I feel like Red Sightstone should have a bigger, badder build path because the stats on it is rather lacking...
