Why not?... I'm ready to donate some money just to avoid freaking awkward support-adc games (I waste too much time with dodges/begging people to swap roles) So? What do you think?

this brings me back before the newer role system was in place, where if you cant play everything on a basic level, you're probably not ready for ranked.

which I still think is the best method to go by.

Old system worked more like "last pick takes supp or grfo".

Everyone should learn to play support when starting out in league. It offers a variety of champions that serve different roles - ranging from mages (hello midlaners), tanks - both aggressive and defensive (hi toplaners and junglers), and healers/shielders. It teaches the value of knowing matchups, watching the map to spot enemy rotations, working with teammates, etc. If you can't play support at a passable level and you are not diamond+, you probably can't play any role well at your rank. Not saying support is easy - it's actually more challenging than many other roles can be. But having the mechanics to play a toplane bruiser or tank, having the mechanics to play a mage or assassin mid, or having the positioning skills and knowledge to play an adc means you have many useful skills to translate to champs with similar playstyles in the support role and vice versa.

I started ranked in season 3 and I sucked. People "flamed" me often and kept yelling at me. Today 1/4 of these people would be chat restricted or worse for how they talked, but most did it to help me stop making simple stupid mistakes over and OVER and over again. I listened to them - even when they weren't the nicest about it, mostly got stuck playing support even though I wanted to play mid and other roles, and learned. I got to know my matchups, learned to carry a sub-par adc to win lane. Even had a few games where I'd 2v5 carry with only one decent teammate. And you know what? I got better at the other roles because I played support. Spotting ganks, teamfight initiation, positioning, farming, dueling; I got better at these BECAUSE I played support. Too many people these days think they know everything when they know almost nothing at all. They miss chances to gank the proper lane for easy early snowballs. They gank when they need to farm. They take ignite instead of tp or vice versa and lose lane - made all the worse because of their poor play and poor choice of summoner spell. They cry "toxic" if people tell them anything other than "gj". Instead of listening and maybe learning to be a better player. They think they made some amazing play when they 4v2 force a tower kill bot - not realizing they only got the 4v2 because their toplaner pulled 3 people top to stop him splitpushing - and lived - and still had pressure topside. Playing support SHOULD be teaching players to better respect the contributions of their team members and the SACRIFICES of their team members. It should be a requirement for every player new to ranked - not something people can pay extra money to avoid.

By the way I started playing this dumb game long b4 you (January 2011) and got my first diamond in S3. You know? Never played supps back then. I hated it then and I hate it now. Yeah I'm just a middle-high diamond guy for a long time. I play restrictly 1 ranked game per day and I dont have time to waste for autofill nonsense.

woodvsmurph1 votes

Well good for you. Perhaps if you played support and looked to learn from the experience, you would be master. But if you are fine with diamond keep your opinion. It's not going to change the existence of autofill.

woodvsmurph1 votes

So you don't want to improve?!? Honestly, people need to grow up. In the history of ranked, everyone has had to autofill. Probably every damn player has played support. And people who look to learn and improve can gain the best perspective on macro as well as understanding the role of multiple different types of champions while learning the basics of pvp by playing support. Furthermore, it should teach people humility so people stop flaming support (or other roles) just because their kda isn't 10/0/2.

Why do you assume support is where someone goes when auto filled? I get auto filled top pretty often and forced to mid. Even when I que for support, auto filled top. Supporting also isn't really difficult.

90% of autofill is support. People rarely complain about getting autofilled to a "carry" role. Thus, I assumed; which I shouldn't have. Toplane there's plenty of "safe" picks (grag, galio, gp - if you're decent with him, shen, etc.) where you can basically afk farm and scale up for teamfights while being fairly safe against ganks and shouldn't be forced into any extended 1v1 you don't want to take. Mid I'll admit can be more challenging; however, it's my 4th most played role with only adc being less played for me. Yet I recently played a game where I was getting flash ganked, ganked, and 3v1 pressured repeatedly - in a matchup where my lane opponent could chunk 1/3 my hp easily while I had to perfectly hit every skillshot just to trade back effectively vs a highly mobile enemy mid. This at the highest rank I have ever gotten in all my time of playing ranked. And yet despite the 3v1's, the constant ganks by fed enemy junglers and toplaners, the vision denial by the enemy support roaming up, I held my own and punished my opponent both 1v1, and when I got a rare gank from my jungler. It's not easy playing mid when you never play it, but it can be done if you pick someone you are comfortable enough with. And as a toplane main, supporting for a bad adc, getting 2v1'd top vs a counterpick, and jungling for 3 losing lanes is probably the hardest 3 things in league. But perspective depends partly on elo as I've learned from climbing. Not saying that others are wrong or that if I were diamond my perspective would for sure be correct; things might be different at that elo. But for silver and gold, this has been my experience.

I say just make autofill a choice. Whats wrong with that? The people that want quick games will get matched with each other and the people that want to wait for their selected role will wait for it. What is the problem?

Tried that last year, it didn't work. Too many people chose not to fill so those that remained had a poor experience (fill even as a secondary meant you were probably supporting almost every game), match quality went down, queue times went up, and they had to implement autofill anyways for higher tiers.

Junglerz Fault1 votes

And you don't believe match quality is poor right now? Have you seen the forums lately and all the auto fill posts? Lol. At least they could disable auto fill for lower tiers.

I've been playing this game since Thresh patch and people have always been crying about matchmaking with little variance to the severity or volume of their complaints.

There was an unusual amount of complaining over dynamic queue last season (most of it demonstrably false), but if anything this season has been relatively light in the complaints seen about "elo hell"

That's a literal pay-to-win mechanic
