Both of them are (generally) pretty equal in power at the moment. But here's when you want to go each-

Shadow Assassin- When the enemies have a lot of squishies and you have a lot of one shot potential. (1-2 tanks)

Darkin- When the enemies have a lot of tankiness and there is little one shot potential. (2 tanks, a bruiser or 2, ect.)

Vs tanky teams, rhaast is better. Example your playing Kayn, and enemy team has renekton top, maokai jungle, and leona support. Definetely rhaast vs team like that, no questions asked. But if your doing good, and enemy team is a bunch of squishies that you can easily assasinate, then shadow assasin is a great choice, since the form is more mobile and has higher upfront burst.

Kayn Enemy team is full of tanks - take Darkin. Enemy team is full of squishies and you want fuun - Assasin.

Depending on how many squisjy/tanky targets the enemy has and whether or not the enemy tanks counter each of the forms. Also deoends on the tyoe of jungler the enemy has.

I mostly go Rhaast because the three times, yes, THREE, I've tried shadow I've lost the game. I played Rhaast, and then boom, I started murdering everything.

They both have situations that make them good.

Shadow assassin

  1. 2 or more enemy squishies
  2. You get ahead
  3. You are simply better than the opponent
  4. It’s more fun
  5. Your team went all as and you need some magic damage

Rhast

  1. 3-5 enemy tanks
  2. You fell way behind
  3. Your opponent is better than you
  4. Less fun but more consistent
  5. You need to 1v5

Shadow assassin has the highest snowball potential but requires your team to be able to win a 4v3. Rhast can hard carry solo but has a hard time against players that build well.

Essentially grab rhast any time Darius or Vayne would be good picks. Shadow assassin any time Kha Zix or talon would be good pick.

Which ever Kayn upgrade shows up and you don't have to wait for is definitely the one to choose. First off there is the pro of not having to wait and also whoever you are doing more damage too in the early game will probably be the same for late so what the game is recommending is probably best for that game.

two forms is very strong Shadow Assassin can one shot most of team in mid and late game. you think he is weak but he isn't,he have very high damage but low health so it is harder than Darkin to play with. Rhaast can nearly kill any tank in the game but if tank have a full build you are not have, you maybe can't kill him.

Which one you choose?

When you find many (2 or higher) high priority targets (even if there were melee like zed, talon and katarina ... ect) or many squishies go shadow assassin.

Shadow assassin is very good to kill back lines adc or high priority targert.

when you find that enemy have more tanks than your team or your team lake of tanks, go Darkin ( be careful! there some smart head that will pick grievous wounds to counter you)

Darkin is very good frontline in team fights

Sorry for my bad english

Want to win? Darkin

Want to have fun/1v9? SA

Darkin is nearly as good as SA at killing squishies if you build straight damage. So you just vary the build, not the transformation. This is both my personal experience and what I've seen pros/LS say about the champion.
