Why am I getting matched with people way over my skill level in norms?

I haven’t ever don’t my promos for a rank and the matchmaking is outing me against golds. I consistently struggle because I frankly am not a good level player yet. I found my MMR on a website and it said it would put me around high silver, but after a 6month break and just string back into the game, I’m really struggling in pvp!! Any tips on how to help this?

Playing against higher tiered players is the best way to improve your skills and mechanics (that's the general thought I play league with).

Now to address a fix, you can keep playing and at one point your MMR will stabilize where it should be, let the system figure this out. (PURELY HYPOTHETICAL)

One way to go through this in a less painful manner is to not focus too much on defeat but instead focus on what you gained out of that game. Example: You can learn from the enemy teams playstyles and farm better, gank better, etc.

There's really nothing you, the player, can do about it.

If you're high silver, gold players are not way over your skill level. You need to beat about 50% of the golds you face in provisionals to place in high silver.

You might've beaten a high tier player / had a winstreak / or duoQ'd with a gold+. These can all manipulate your MMR.

If you've got silver MMR don't be suprised to see low plats in your lane every other day.

Because playing for fun means giving up any form of competition /s

Really, the only way to enjoy a mostly balanced game is to play Ranked. As long as Ranked MMR has no effect on normal MMR, Normal matchmaking is always gonna be a gamble.
