Why not make basic support items give as much gold as full build support items?

A huge part of what has held supports back since season 1 is starting out having to buy items to get gold to get more gold items. Or these days spending gold to upgrade your gold items. The support role has been the least impactful, least fun and least popular role since pre season 1. Its time for some radical changes.

Why not make item 3301 item 3303 and item 3302 give as much gold as their upgraded versions? item 3302 would need to be changed so that Tops and Jungles didn't start grabbing it and roaming to other lanes to share the $$ but it could use a rework anyway because good luck proccing it late game while your team waveclears before your attack animation can go off.

Supports should be defined by their ability to provide utility in a duo lane then scale into a useful champion late game. Not cheeze an early win for their adc or be so over tuned they can assist the team despite having much less gold.

The gold items are fine the way they. Gold is far from a problem with supports. It's more about the price of their items. I rarely see a support rushing item 3143 or item 3110 because their bloody expensive.

Gold is not the problem not being able to afford powerful impactful items is. Glad we cleared that up.

Actually what do you think what item 3190 does and it only costs 2500 gold. Not to mention with cheap and powerfull componments. If you compair this with item 3110 (now 2800 gold) the price is just crazy. I believe frozen heart was even 2900 gold before. It was priced so high because of the abuse in the toplane.

To be fair, the Locket is pretty severely underpriced, especially when you consider that it's a demanded pick on every support outside of Sightstone.

Exactly but it's also the only tank item in the game supports can affort besides item 3401. What else do we have for that price, item 3056. O wait...

While I agree with your points, I disagree that is the way to fix it

How would you fix it? I've been playing since S1 and as inelegant as my solution may be I have never seen anything better.

While I agree, Item synergy, generally doesn't help.

Most Supports who's utility scales well with items, are going to do it better in the solo lane, given that their kits allow them to lane well. (Like Karma) Really the best Support scaling I've seen that work for supports, are ones that arn't really reliant on items. (Thresh's souls, Bard's meeps)

Also, any attempt to give a Support, Laner level of gold, would be completely impossible to reconcile among all ELO. (I will litterally get an Akali Mid lane with 40 CS at 10 minutes, complain that I have APC level gold.) And in some cases, it could very well make CS a moot point. (It could bring back the FQC rush on midlaners, back into the meta.)

it is quite a dilemma. you get support item to get gold, but you pay gold to get it. then you pay gold to upgrade it to get even more gold. and eventually with sightstone and everything you pay even more gold from very little that you have. eventually you get decent amount of gold after maybe 30 minutes from support item. but all that amount that you get just covers the price of support item.

either way this is my opinion, but riot needs to be looking at support role and making it more fun, more impactful and interesting, more rewarding. the reasons why supports are least picked are very clear and this should be one of their major priorities.

Probably because people would stop buying the full item?
