And I'm ok with that. Thank you for making her well balanced :3

Edit: Oh shit, I forgot her birthday on the 7th D: Late Happy Birthday!

Nami's such a well rounded champion, she's the kind of champion who does everything a bit better than jack of all trades do but isn't obnoxious in anything and doesn't spike in any weird way when items get changed.

Riot did too good of a job on her :D

That's because of all the enchanters, she's the one who can do anything: heal, poke, peel, engage, disengage and spells being able to be also cast on allies. Yet she doesn't excel in any of these categories compare to the others enchanters likeSoraka having better heals or Janna having better peels.

It's kinda like those class in rpgs that can do everything but there are not that strong compare to a class who specialize in a specific area.

rtbf2256182411 votes

As a Janna main, i've never seen anyone that knows how to engage with her so you're not totally right because I for example can.

Eeyore1 votes

Ummm, he said Janna is an example of a specialized controller by contrast the Nami who is less specialized at it (although I'd argue this point). How is your experience of how well Jannas play contrary to his claim of Janna's role?

rtbf2256182411 votes

And i added my opinion to it. Do you have a problem when people make statements?

Eeyore3 votes

You told him he was wrong and then stated why he was right. I take an issue with that.

rtbf2256182411 votes

I said he wasn't totally right. Your issue is already proven wrong.

Eeyore4 votes

You said he wasn't totally right and then provided "counter evidence" that supported him - i.e. you didn't explain why you said he was wrong.

His comment:

Nami is a jack of trades, compared to Janna who is specialised in disrupting and Soraka who is specialised in healing.

Your reply:

You're wrong to say that Janna is a bad disruptor - you've just never seen a good one. I'm a good one, so that's how I know you're wrong about that.

You're literally explaining why he's right, but telling him he's wrong.

rtbf2256182411 votes

I said he wasn't completely right. I.e half-right because his statement only applies to the majority.

For example, Draven can't normally wield 3 axes at once but i know that some very good Draven mains can in fact do that. They're a minority obviously. So ofcourse anyone who says "Draven can't use 3 axes in a teamfight, that's ridiculous" is not completely wrong because most people really can't do that although a small minority potentially can.

You completely misinterpreted what i said by tagging the "I'm that good." there. Any statement on the internet is potentially bullshit as long as the person is talking about themselves in a good light. I can engage with her using certain tactics although i never said it was easy. It's propably one of the hardest tasks she can pull off because she's not specialized for it but she can do it. It's like saying Soraka can't tank anything although with certain items and Q usage she could...theoretically speaking.

Yeah, i am a good Janna main. I didn't play 2k+ games and learn nothing. She's the only champion i can say i'm good with because i've never performed badly with her in the last 2 Seasons. No shit i'm going to say she can engage when she can. I didn't come here to argue.

That's the whole point of when i said:

you're not totally right.

Yea downvote me whatever, who the fuck even cares anyway?

Eeyore2 votes

This isn't an argument, this is me asking why you called him wrong and you not answering the question. What I have now inferred from your latest post is that what you meant to say in your original post was:

You're wrong to say that Janna is a specialized disruptor because some players are incapable of using her skills properly.

In which case, I would now argue you're wrong. Players being bad with her doesn't change her specialisation. The original commentor is not wrong to claim Janna is a specialized disruptor just because some players are bad with her.

rtbf2256182411 votes

Take it as a mistake in wording then as i didn't expect a full blown separate comments section to come out of it. I clearly meant to add to that statement that she can also engage instead of being a shield bot.

Eeyore1 votes

No-one said she was a shield bot. The only thing that was said is she's a strong peeler/disruptor (which means she engages/disengages). Thus, your "addition" was just a repeat of what the original comment said (something you also said that he was wrong to say).

Do you think "peeling" means "shielding"?

rtbf2256182411 votes

It's like you're trying to be right even though you clearly can't be because your whole point of perspective is pure misinterpretation of what i said.

No one said she was a shield bot, that's one of her stereotypes among League i brought up. "Janna requires no skill, press E - R and win" is what i was referring to. You think i haven't heard that?

My addition was an addition. What the fuck? How did it repeat anything the original comment said? It was an add-on to it, extending the understanding of what she is instead of repeating it.

Also, he was wrong to say about just Nami:

That's because of all the enchanters, she's the one who can do anything: heal, poke, peel, engage, disengage and spells being able to be also cast on allies.

Janna is an universal Support in the right hands..in my hands as the obvious example.

Eeyore1 votes

You may have meant all of that - but you didn't say any of it. Your original comment just told him he was wrong to call Janna a peeler and then gave yourself as an example of a player who knows how to peel with her. That is all you said. There is no other way to interpret that except that maybe you misread what he said as saying she was a bad peeler.

There was no misinterpretation on my part - this entire "argument", as you say, was me trying to find out what you meant. And most of your follow-up has nothing to do with your original comment, so I'm not sure how you expected anyone to understand what you said.

rtbf2256182411 votes

I didn't say he was wrong to call her a peeler. I never said that. I said Janna also can be very effective in the opposite direction and called him wrong to say only Nami can do everything. That's what i meant.

As a Janna main, i've never seen anyone that knows how to engage with her so you're not totally right because I for example can.

That's because of all the enchanters, she's the one who can do anything

Yeah totally valid your last point..

Serika Zero2 votes

but janna should never ever evvvvvvvvvvver engage unless she and her team are far ahead

your ult is waaaay more powerful to protect your carry than to start a fight

rtbf2256182411 votes

Yes she should. When there's an opportunity.

Serika Zero1 votes

Bro you don't understand. If the enemy has the ability to destroy your carry, you shouldn't engage as janna. You are THE STRONGEST peal support in the game. But if you blow your abilities to engage, you are as useful as an Yi with no items.

Just because you can, or there is an opportunity for it, doesn't mean you 100% have to take it. That's what I learned by playing Yu-gi-oh... just because I can use a card an kill everything, doesn't mean I should use it RIGHT NOW. I don't know how to explain this properly to you unless you played some strategical games in your life (chess, yu-gi-oh, pokemon, etc).

Ofc, if you are very far ahead, engaging with janna or doing something just because you can is fine. If you are not, then you shouldn't ever engage with her. There's a reason i had 80% win ratio on janna in s5, and that's because i didn't flash ult at every opportunity to engage.

rtbf2256182411 votes

What the fuck is it with everyone using their imagination in these arguments to that extent that the enemies are standing like this during a teamfight.

      Red Turret

Mid -- Adc - Support

    Tank - Jungler

Because that shit is not the case like 80% of the time. People move around and scatter and create windows of opportunities which i've exploited a LOT as Janna by doing the unexpected and netting my team a free win by taking out a carry that is going for poke and doesn't see me coming nor reacts fast enough.

When there's an opportunity.

I think you should write it down.

Do you really think my perception of "engaging as Janna" is...blowing an insta-cast Q and W? The f´´ck? I'm clearly either talking about aiming my Q at at least half charge or using Talisman + Flash + Q + R to Insec the enemy or just Flash R. That's an opportunity taken. I'm not talking about stupid shit that i just randomly flash in and ult. Like wtf? Ofcourse i would die. I'm not Silver V.

That's what I learned by playing Yu-gi-oh... just because I can use a card an kill everything, doesn't mean I should use it RIGHT NOW.

Obviously, everyone LOVES to describe late game situations in perfect mathematical theory of all possible outcomes when it comes to debating League matchups but i don't do this shit only in late game. "Engaging" doesn't mean just teamfight engage, it can mean just engaging a fight.

PS:Baiting an engage (I.e walking into Leona E range) is an excellent way of separating the bot laners and focusing all cc and damage on one instead of fighting 2 at once since Janna is indeed so good at peeling.

I've played Janna at Challenger Tournament level and never had higher than 60% win rate, you played very few fucking games then. Don't bs me. Best players have like 65 - 70% win rate on some of their best champions and that's a fact.

Well..unless you lost a ton of games and then played the win rate back with Janna because the system was going easy on you after losing. There's no way you consistently win that much. I've never gone past 14 wins in a row with her and that was back in Season 4 during which i still ended up with a lower win rate that i have now.

I have to somewhat disagree.

Although I do not think Nami's design will ever make her broken, when she was a meta support in mid season 4 her synergy with champions like Lucian and especially Caitlyn was overbearing. (For Caitlyn, she could just run it down bot lane and do 100 damage poke on each AA, and it was extremely difficult for everyone but Ezreal and Lucian to kite)

Overall I'd say Nami and Thresh are the two best designed supports (Mechanically in empowering the support player) and should be the basis for future support designs if Riot really want to get people to play support.

Troll for Trump12 votes

Thresh is basically Blitz on steroids

SlntReaper1 votes

Blitz has 100% AP scaling

500000000000000013 votes

Thresh has a 200% AD scaling on his E passive. 300% AD if you include his actual AA damage.

Troll for Trump9 votes

And Nunu has 120% AP scaling on his ult, and 100% on his E. Do you think people go full AP Nunu?

A lot of champs have good scalings, and, while you can build them glass cannon, the high scalings are there because they want you to build tanky, but still deal dmg(a la juggernaut), and the scalings help in keeping the dmg high.

The champs with these parameters are those who you should need to build tanky to be successful with. This is the case with Blitz. However, Blitz is an outdated champ, and since they aren't reworking him, he has balance issues. That is, people were abusing his scalings and building glass cannon, and it was overshadowing the "intended build path." So they toned a lot of the things that made Blitz strong, such as his ult's CD, making his burst combo much more delayed, and making glass cannon full AP blitz a lot worse.

As a Nami main, I ban Thresh every time if I can.

And for 2 reasons: 1, I don't like playing against someone who got such a 12/10 overloaded kit. 2, Being a Nami player (and support player in general), I don't much care for the prospect of becoming litteral hook-bait...

Just because something has an overall large amount of options doesn't necessarily mean that all of them are as great as other champions.

There is a reason why he has a high play rate and a below average win rate.

If there is no Thresh, you would have ¼ as many support mains

Downvote me if you please, but it's the truth

PaladinNO2 votes

Why would I downvote? This is a gameplay thread - we discuss things, and naturally are opinions gonna differ. ^^ I just tried to put my view on a Nami/Thresh matchup in a somewhat humorous way.

If you downvoted me for my personal view, then that's sad, but nothing I can do anything about it.

No denying that Thresh DO have multiple accessories in his kit though: engage, disengage, AoE slow, plus inherent tankiness and potential damage (even when built as support tank).

That said, I enjoy a good Thresh game now and then myself. http://matchhistory.eune.leagueoflegends.com/en/#match-details/EUN1/1577071871/201309331?tab=overview

But regardless of outcome, I just find Nami to be a more fun champion to play. http://matchhistory.eune.leagueoflegends.com/en/#match-details/EUN1/1564006988/201309331?tab=overview

Oh don't worry, you are entitled to dislike champions/match-ups

If you enjoy Nami, that's fine by me, personally for me Thresh is my favorite support to play/carry.

I'm sorry if I accused you, we probably agree with more than I sound like.

That's because Aatrox can't be balanced so they have to keep him weak, similar to Kalista and Azir. They need reworks

Nami's kit is very powerful but she has several clever limitations placed on it to keep her in check.

AoE stun? Yes but with a travel time and slow missile speed. Even point blank Qs can get dodged.

Point and click poke/heal? Yes, but the mana cost is insane if you max it first.

E slow is just a clever design. Combined with her passive it's sort of like a mini Zilean E (Speed an ally up, slow an enemy down).

And her ultimate has a big telegraph/cast time without feeling bad to the Nami player. It travels slowly but the missile doesn't look slow like Aqua Prison, that's about as fast as you would expect a wave to travel.

Don't push your luck, nami's been top tier for awhile now.

GrReaper963 votes

Ikr im surprised she hasnt been gutted (pun intended) are her high pick ratio in worlds

Abandon7 votes

I wholeheartedly agree.

I feel there's too much focus on champions being "new" and "innovative" when they instead can be looking back on ideas that worked out well and try to adapt those aspects of other champions into their newer works. Nami has a unique champion identity and her kit is so simple yet it compliments her so much and allows for both her strengths and weaknesses to be easily identifiable.

Despite having said all this, I feel support is also a much easier role *to balance (my bad) than other roles.

Wish I knew how Nami worked, I've been told she's easy to play & is a really good support to have. :/

Electro5225 votes

Well then, allow me to give you a quick rundown...

Her passive gives a scaling movementspeed boost to allies whenever they are hit with one of her abilities. The duration is quite short, but it is quite noticeable. This can help you or allies catch up to people, or get out of sticky situations.

Her Q, or the bubble, is, arguably, her most iconic ability. A simple skillshot that stuns all enemies in a small AoE when it lands. What is interesting about this ability, is that it gets harder to land as the game goes on due to its slow missile speed, and people upgrading boots, and what not. The bubble is the most challenging part about her, and if you can consistently land them, you've basically mastered Nami.

Her W is her heal, however, it can also damage enemies. If you cast it on an ally, it will heal them, and then bounce to the closest enemy. If you cast it on an enemy, it will then bounce to the nearest ally (including you). It cannot, however, bounce from ally to ally, or enemy to enemy. Most of the time, you can only really get one bounce off of it, but there are times where you can get around 3 bounces on it. Each champion can only be hit once by the ability.

Her E is her auto attack buff. This gives you or an ally 3 empowered auto attacks that deal extra magic damage, and slows. Both the damage and the slow isn't too noticeable, but still comes in handy in most situations.

And finally, her ultimate. A massive, long range, wide skill shot, that knocks up and slows any enemies in its path. The missile speed is fast enough to catch even the fastest champs, but slow enough that you have plenty of time to side step it, if need be. The width is big enough to fill half a lane, so it's easy to hit the entire enemy team. And the range is MASSIVE, like Xerath ult levels of range. I forget exact numbers, but you can ult from the Dragon pit, and it can easily reach the mid lane side bushes, and past that. Though, I recommend using it at about mid range, due to the slow missile speed, for it gives enemies less time to react.

Also, one hidden thing about her ult (though, not really since its on the tooltip) is that any allies hit by your ult get double the movement speed from your passive. This, combined with the hefty slow it gives enemies, makes it very easy for your team to catch anyone caught in the wave. You never really notice it due to being caught in the moment, but it's there and its AWESOME!!!

Anyway, hope this helps! Feel free to ask anything else! I'm a budding Nami main, and absolutely loving her right now.
