So if Nexus Blitz is being considered for a permanent game mode, why not Dominion?

Bârd··56 votes·15,106 views

Honestly, if you guys had put half the effort into saving Dominion that you put into making Nexus Blitz into what it is, we'd still have Dominion.

The mode was fun and had tons of potential, and it would have probably retained a decent player base if you hadn't abandoned it entirely.

Because bringing back Dominion means that they admit they fucked up.

When has Riot done that?

no. no they didn't revert Dynamic queue, they kept it, it's called flex, and just brought solo queue back as a separate mode after so many complaints, I need them to revert zac, sejuanai too I guess they're nerfing sejuani R from 3 seconds to 1 even tho she's already terrible in solo Q

Now this is a post, worthy of an upvote.

If players were half as eager to play dominion as they are to upvote all the "bring dominion back" posts, Rito would never stop updating it.

Sad, but true.

3TWarrior5 votes

the only way they even touched dominion was if it had a game-breaking bug or to introduce capture animations

it was expected to receive a ranked mode. it did not It was expected to have the wait duration for the start to be shortened: it was not

it was expected that the items for it would be updated and that you might get the performance-based rewards on the map. nothing happened

they ignored it time and time again and with their competitive focus ONLY on SR, people abandoned it because it was pointless to get good at it

Yeah, they ignored it, because barely anyone played it from the very beginning.

Jerry SeinfeId8 votes

you already answered your own question, noone played it. On top of that some champs' playstyle was completely invalidated by the gamemode and thus were actual trollpicks.

Arcane Blue Boi3 votes

Well of course a game isnt going to be played if it stops recieving patch notes from the devs

Jerry SeinfeId10 votes

And yet aram, a game mode that barely gets balance changes, is still taking 10% of the playerbase.

when a gold level player has to wait as long as a challenger player in soloq to get into a game of dominion, noone is gonna be up for that. And then there's still the problem with how certain champs got invalidated by the map.

anyway, it probably lost balance support for the exact same reasons as it's deletion.

Arcane Blue Boi1 votes

aram just got a fucking patch dedicated to changing it yeah youre right

SpecterVonBaren3 votes

ARAM gets very little attention balance wise and Riot keeps it running. Just deal with the fact that no one played Dominion jeez.

3TWarrior3 votes

there was no pressure when playing aram and riot actually bothered to update ARAM for the performance grade rewards and other features

riot ignored the mode constantly until there was no benefit for the players to play it. Notoriously, bots were flooding both it and twisted treeline, getting into matches with real players...

cocacolalips1 votes

Dominion has had a lot more support from Riot and balance changes than ARAM ever had, they had a team committed to it for a year or two

the denial is real, some products are successful and some aren't, it's not rocket science, stop blaming riot or the players and move on with your life, there are thousands better games than Dominion worth playing.

3TWarrior1 votes

lol, if the wiki and a quick search is anything to go by, they literally did not update dominion after patch 1.0...

Arcane Blue Boi8 votes

Riot: We will stop updating crystal scar Comunity: Ok *stops playing it because it doesnt get atention from the devs Riot: Wtf guys why arent you playing crystal scar, removed

Zero Skill Tank4 votes

Riot stopped updating crystal scar because nobody played it, not vice versa.

3TWarrior2 votes

#edit: some people seem to think I was discrediting dominion...I was against the devs decisions, not the game mode

you have that backwards XD they showed no support for the mode at all other than fixing game-breaking bugs and giving champions capture animations

otherwise, the mode was left in the dust with many features that it should have gotten just left behind

why play dominion when you get no performance based rewards, there is no ranked, there is no professional scene for it, you have to wait over a minute and a half just to even go out onto the field, there is no jungle and minion interaction is poor

it also had little feeling of advancement when you're just lowering an opponent's counter

i like how Dominion with its half assed "balance patches" is still more balanced then nexus blitz.

OurLestrade6 votes

While I'm liking Blitz it doesn't scratch the itch that Dominion scratched, but then most people didn't like Dominion for being too different.

dominion's trash

SangreDeNoche4 votes

Same with urf and company. Riot insists they don't want to put work into this, then puts work into everything but to "avoid" having to work.

Solidair34 votes

It was too difficult for them to balance (because they didn't REALLY try) and to be fair, there was a lot of degenerate play (someone being forced to go bottom in an endless 1v1, usually against Malzahar or Yorick) but I'm sure it could be improved if they actually tried. It was also fast paced and fun.

Now that I'm thinking about it, a version of dominion with the events from Nexus Blitz to spice things up with more dedicated balance work would be very cool.

Don't get me wrong, I loved dominion and all, it was just so "clunky" and didn't fit the dynamic of League of Legends.

It was a CTF type map in a MOBA game, and really the only champions that were viable in it were shit like Shaco and Twitch. People would literally just play to capture altars instead of fighting eachother. Imagine trying to play Illaoi in that map, exactly, you wouldn't.

Nexus Blitz is dominion 2.0 because you're fighting for objectives in a 3v3-esk map, being because it's so small, but it's 5v5. It takes around 30 seconds to roam from top to bottom and you can run into an enemy champion at any point of the game while jungling.

Obviously, they're not exactly the same, but it most cases, they are.

pretty much everyone was viable in dominion until very high levels of play with it, which did not really matter because there was no ranked

nasus and veigar did not do that well, but AP nasus hits like a truck and veigar is veigar. He had his own problems

Bring at least the map only without nothing loaded in if you don't wanna make efforts. I just want to play hide and seek :(

Kairoptra3 votes

Let’s face it: Dominion’s problems came not from neglect but from its core design. It was incredibly monotonous; all you did was capture points and teamfight. That’s all there was to it. SR has different roles and all sorts of complex situations. ARAM keeps you on your toes with the chaotic randomness of the champion picks. Even TT is more exciting than dominion since it’s basically diet SR. A game of Dominion was nothing more than rinse and repeat. The only way they could’ve fixed that was to rework into something else.

I get it; some of you enjoyed it. However, what I described is just not what League is or was ever supposed to be. It catered to an audience that was largely not present in the LoL fan base because again, Dominion is the black sheep of game modes. It’s repetitive and predictable while the others have some aspect that make them more exciting. I’m sorry, but Riot’s not going to waste money on a mode that flopped.

Sirsir3 votes

The problem with Dominion was it was a massive bot mode, right?

Honestly I wouldn't get too attached to NB. Dominion had a fair following at first too, then it started to rot.

UnboundHades3 votes

the thing with dominion was it played completely differently from summoners rift so it was harder to balance and the entire mode was built on a gimmick while nexus blitz is a faster version of summoners rift with some twists in the form of events.

also nobody played dominion at any point since it was live and the only thing bringing it back would do is give it a major boost at the start then die down and face the same problems that it did before

Jeddite2 votes

Because the playerbase is too stupid to understand how capture-and-hold works (Rito's words, not mine). But the playerbase understands_** "HUR DUR ME KILL NEXUS COLLECT ELO DUR DUR"**_ so Nexus Blitz is automatically okay as a permanent mode.

Also, supporting Dominion properly would require resources that Rito James™ preferred to allocate to Summoner's Rift so that LOL e$PORT$ LOL would be a thing. And now that LOL e$PORT$ LOL is a thing (and Dominion is dead), Rito James™ can allocate resources to some wonky hybrid of Summoner's Rift and Twisted Treeline (to the continuing detriment of TT, BTW).

People are always asking for Dominion back but when it was there the playerbase was very small. I queued once and it was like 30mins long and I ended up in a game where almost everyone was a bot. No one really played it.

I think that they should make ascension permanent. If they decide to bring Dominion back they need to tweak it because so many people are rallying for Dominion back but they are just going to ignore it after a while.

The first two years I played League I spent the vast majority of my time in Dominion or the old Twisted Treeline. The reason I quit playing Dominion was because there were too many bots and balance changes never came.

ModPrandine1 votes

Yes, I would love to see Dominion brought back as a permanent game mode as do many others as evidenced by this thread I made a few months ago. I've enjoyed both Dominion and Ascension, and while I have played some games of Nexus Blitz it's not a mode I would eagerly go back to time and again. Sure it was different from SR and TT and ARAM, but that's what made it fun and unique and entertaining. Heck, Heroes of the Storm has a Dominion-esque map in the form of Towers of Doom, so if Blizzard can do it then why can't Riot (outside of laziness and half-baked excuses as to why they wouldn't update the mode of course)?

P.S. I also played DnD and didn't enjoy it as games were pretty much decided by the very first team fight around the center objective and rarely had back and forth gameplay if at all.
