So I've been working on my Item thread. At the moment I'm working on Rod of Ages, and here's my solution :

###Rod of Ages

NEW |
Transforms into Gemstone Rod at level 18

###Gemstone Rod

  • NEW | Passve :

  • Holds 3 charges. Charges refill upon visiting the shop or on champion kill or assist.

  • NEW | UNIQUE Active - Valor's Reward :

    • Consumes a charge to refill 55 Health and 75 Mana over 8 seconds.

And, what do you think ?

At level 18, the small amount of hp and mana regain seems extremely irrelevant.

So, I'm a bit confused, what makes you think that RoA needs to be changed? It has a niche spot in certain champion builds, and the champions that do build it I'm not certain how this would benefit them to any relevant extent.

Maybe I'm just misunderstanding and you're just exploring different options and ideas for things, in which case awesome (maybe give it a smaller mana restore and more health, since most RoA builder's have A LOT of mana already so going OOM isn't that frequent).

I actually kind of like the idea that it should build out of Flask, and maybe give another flask charge on leveling up (which is basically the same as the current passive). Gives Flask somewhere to go; gives RoA a passive post-18 (so it's good if you finish it later, for whatever reason).

This should be something that actually does something instead of this. Lets say the upgrade happens when the rod maxes out the stats. When the rod transforms you get extra stats on top of the bonus stats that the rod would confer onto you. Seriously though, what good is having 55 health restored over 8 seconds at level 18? That is what half the effectiveness of a healing potion, and they stop being relevant at level 3.

Nevermind that I think the rod does not need to be reworked at all in the first place, but if it were on me to make a change to the item, I think that would be the one I make.

I like the thought of item 3027 evolving at max stacks instead of at lvl 18. Think that it getting an effect similar to item 3003. I would play around with making it have an added passive after reaching max stacks as apposed to adding an active. Then you could make that passive useful across higher levels to make up for the fact that the health and mana upon leveling up goes away at max level.
