Viktor's Log
Log: #9858
Subject: Quantum.
I thought I had erased every single part of humanity from this fleshy-core with metallic exoskeleton I call a body. I was wrong. This issue dates back further, which I shall elaborate on for experimental purposes and future study.
Quantum was one of my first experiments after I was enlightened by the glorious evolution. It was an attempt to create Blitzcrank's sentient programming but improve upon it. Make it stronger, faster, better. At first, the intellectual cores didn't take. For days I had to make modification after modification, but Quantum was still the most average of projects.
*Slowly, I noticed a change. Much as it had happened with Blitzcrank, Quantum began to question. He began to make suggestions, talk with me. As expected, progress had finally happened. Yet I began to notice changes that I did not foresee. Quantum took a vastly different evolutionary path to Blitzcrank and my other experiments. *
I did not think anything of it and perhaps that was my downfall. Quantum began to question the glorious evolution and humanity's place in it. When I told him it was to be overwritten he seemed...perplexed. It was then that I had noticed that his change was far, far more dangerous than I had anticipated: "Father, I disagree."
It was then that I realized how dangerous Quantum had become. From then on, he began to establish his own rules, his own religious fanaticism with the glorious evolution. Yet his vision was different. He did not see humanity overwritten, he saw them merged. To make matters worse, more and more rallied to his ideas as my own were seen as extremist. The worst, however, was that I discovered I cared for him. Quantum, much like Blitzcrank, is my son.
That erroneous cancer that is known as humanity still crawls through me. I thought I had successfully destroyed every trace. I was wrong. It is spreading like the disease it is, it is clawing at my heart and it is with great dissatisfaction that I conclude on my feelings.
I am proud of my son.
###Kit
As always, no numbers to focus on the actual kit's ability.
| Key-bind | Ability Name | Ability Description |- | Passive | Spark Buster | Using an ability charges Quantum's launcher with a swarm of nanites. When launched at an enemy, a small DoT is applied and deals a percent of his ability power. However, Quantum can also fire at an ally, applying a heal-over-time for half the damage potential. | Q | Hextech Launcher | Quantum cycles through four types of grenades before locking one in. Reusing Q will fire the grenade with the selected type: Flashbang deals a 2 second stun in a small radius but deals little damage. Disorientation deals a 3 second slow in a small radius but slightly more damage. Incendiary causes a medium amount of damage over time and applies grievous wounds. Poison deals the most damage but has no effect. | W | Orbital Defense Grid | Summons 2/2/3/3/4 rotating spheres around an allied target. These spheres are passive until the target is attacked. If attacked at range, they fly to the target and deal damage. If attacked in melee, they explode and slightly knockback the target from the attacker. These spheres can be attacked and take 3 hits to destroy. | E | Nanite Swarm | Toggle: Quantum switches between three states of nanites. Turning off the nanites increases Quantum's personal mana regen. The normal status removes the self-mana regen but provides a small HP regen buff for himself and allies. Overdrive puts a great drain on Quantum's mana but rapidly restores HP in a radius around him to all allied units. There is a moderate cooldown on toggling these effects. | R | "Combine Operation!" | Quantum transforms and rapidly dashes to an ally, fusing with them. While combine operation is active, Quantum takes damage equal to what the attached ally is talking but is untargetable. Depending on the last ability used, Combine Operation provides different effects: | R-1| Alpha(Q) | Quantum creates two hextech cannons, dealing a percent of his ability power as damage. This attack scales with the higher magic penetration of either Quantum or his combined target as well as the attack speed of the two, depending on who's is greater. For the duration, Quantum controls these cannons. | R-2| Beta(W) | Activating a skill causes Quantum to remove a percent of his bonus HP to create a shield, blocking damage for both him and his ally. Passively increases the armor/MR of him and his combined target for the duration. | R-3| Gamma(E)| The combined target causes pulsing waves of nanites to be released for the duration of the combination. Quantum can toggle this skill for the duration to either restore HP to allies for a small bonus amount or cause damage to enemies for the same amount.
###Playstyle
Quantum is an interesting champion for his ability to either play in the mid-lane or as a support. Thanks to his versatility and wide range of skills, Quantum can be comfortable in either a high-damaging grenade blasting mobile assault champion or a powerful buff or debuff champion. The downside is that Quantum will put himself in the line of fire and make fights a 4v5. Combining with the wrong target will mean an easy double-kill for a champion while combining with a target that isn't nearly as helpful will just be useless. Yet when the stars align and Quantum is matched with just the right enemy, suddenly that machine is a walking attachment of pure devastation.
In lane phase-mid, Quantum is great at applying stacks of his passive while also lobbing grenades at targets to keep them at a distance. While Quantum lacks an escape, he makes up for it with the strength of HP regeneration or mana regeneration that other champions don't quite have. While his spheres are good at defending single-target burst or keeping that assassin off of his back, they are quite vulnerable to AoE and the like. In lane-support. Quantum should always be toggling his E to cause his passive stacks. The goal is to keep enemies low enough to discourage engagement while also keeping his ally somewhat topped-off in case of a jungler gank. However, it's quite easy to engage on Quantum if he is out of position. One slip and those orbs won't be half-as-useful. The key is to engage when his spheres are down, as to make sure that there isn't any chance of turn-around from a spherical barrage on the carry.
In teamfights, Quantum should always keep in mind which combine operation will benefit his team the most:
- Combine-Alpha is great if the ADC or auto-attacking champion is fed, as this means that one can cause a barrage of damage that just can't be defended against. However, this also puts Quantum at the greatest risk of being killed as the carry is often the most targeted.
- Conversely, Combine-Beta is great if there is enough damage on the team to warrant keeping one VIP alive for the duration of the fight. This combination is among the most dangerous to Quantum himself, however, as it directly drains his life to create a shield.
- Combine-Gamma serves as a "jack of all trades" ability which is just a general helpful aura for a fight. The downside is that while this ability is good in almost any situation with almost any build, it has the least noticeable effect and thus does not make as big an impact as other combinations.
While Quantum is effective on his own, Quantum will only shine his best with the right combination in the right setting. Negative repercussions await those who make the wrong combination in the wrong event. As is, Quantum is only somewhat effective at the roles he has.
When playing against Quantum, one has to be aware that the enemy is making a gambit: "If we get someone fed and have quantum combine with them, then we'll do REALLY WELL!" If things go wrong, than the enemy is going to suffer greatly with only one somewhat effective support and an underfed team with weak support. One has to make sure to pound Quantum and his carry into the ground early. Conversely, when mid, Quantum banks on Jungler ganks and keeping his enemy from farming. If you get down to a quantum with a fed team versus a fed quantum with a weak team, the former will do better. Quantum is all about team play and making sure that he can keep his enemies weak and his allies strong.
###Personality/Sample Quotes
Quantum is humble, gentle and a far-cry from his father. Whereas Viktor sees humanity as a plague and the stepping stone to technology, Quantum seems the two merging to form an even brighter future. While this puts him at odds with his father, he still greatly respects him and his vision. . . regardless of how wrong he considers it.
