You know... When you think about it, why IS Bard helping the other champions?

Now game play wise, I fucking hate Bard... I just feel like he has potential to be a good support but there are others that do his job better in several scenarios. But his design and whatnot I adore, and his animated video was amazing as well (I just now know it was the people behind the LoK who animated this so yeah... No Budget for the fancy shit eh?)

However here is a problem I see, it's why he is helping, and it's mainly because of one sentence in his paragraph "lore"

> Bard travels through realms beyond the imagination of mortal beings. Some of Valoran's greatest scholars have spent their lives trying to understand the mysteries he embodies. This enigmatic spirit has been given many names throughout the history of Valoran, but titles such as Cosmic Vagabond and Great Caretaker only capture a fleeting aspect of his true purpose. When the unknowable structure of the universe is threatened, Bard steers all existence away from utter annihilation.

See that sentence I Bolded and Italicized? I did it for a good reason, as in the battles that go on in Valoran DON'T have the makings of Universal Collapse. And to extent to what I mean: Bard did nothing to stop Xerath from falsely claiming immortality Bard didn't give a fuck about Lissandra and the Frozen Watchers turn Runeterra into a giant freezer Bard just watched as whomever the Ruined King is basically cheated death and as such created the Shadow Isles (Which lead to creations such as Thresh Hecarim Karthus Mordekaiser Elise and Yorick whenever Riot remembers that he exists)

Those 3 things were not only mentioned in Bard's teaser pics (the constellations), but are also major things that basically fucked up the world a bit in their own ways, but it wasn't cosmic levels of fuckery. So as such Bard didn't give a shit and just sat back, ate some cosmic popcorn, and watch the world burn a bit. But as it currently stands, nothing really makes sense for Bard to be here.

However I know what you people are thinking. "But what if it's not gonna happen now, but soon, and that's why Bard is doing what he is doing to stop it?"

Good point, but I wanna point you back to that sweet ass animated video Bard got, know how that laser egg was the reason Bard even bothered to step in? Yeah, think of what would happen if the egg laser got into the those Noxian hands? That would make sense as to why Bard did what he did. Now compare that reasoning behind what he is doing right now... Is there any major threat/weapon currently existing? Is there something that can be used to harm all of Runeterra if it fell into the wrong hands? As far as I can tell, No. No there hasn't and there isn't any signs that there will be. Otherwise Bard would have went and brought out the Meep Minigun to stop the Resurrection of Sion, Aatrox being that War Symbol that he is, And anything that is Voidborn.

tl;dr No, your not getting one of these, reading can't kill you... You can do it...

I've been working on a theory that actually might explain this, though it is fully fan made and is likely completely incorrect according to the actual lore. Please keep this in mind when reading.

Basically the "retcon" was not actually a retcon in the traditional sense. From our perspective it was, but according to the in game lore everything that was cannon is still technically cannon, though not actively cannon.

Runeterra has experienced three stages over the course of it's timeline, separated by two very large anomalies of artificial origin. During the initial timeline there were magical wars and the like that threatened to tear the world apart. In an effort to correct this the most powerful mages were brought together to come up with a solution. They couldn't simply undo the damage that was done, as there were too many centers of magic interacting with one another to create any stable solution.

So instead they fractured the world. Places like the home of the Angels and Shurima were split off from Runeterra proper so that the rest of the world could be repaired. Due to the powerful magics used Runeterra reacted imperfectly to correct the timeline, which explains why in the old lore Shurima quite simply vanished. It no longer existed in Runeterra.

The mages knew their fix might not be enough, and that they might not survive the transition, so they left behind the blueprints to repeat the process. This is where the old lore begins.

The Institute of War is formed and League matches help keep the peace, and in the process the world slowly repairs itself. Most of the events mentioned by the OP happen during this second stage of the timeline. Artifacts of the old world are found, including a scale from a certain void creature that happened to vanish as well. The blueprints are found and protected by a powerful blue mage we all know, and life continues in relative peace for a while.

And that's when the "retcon" hits. The world is restored enough that the fragment worlds can be rejoined with Runeterra. Runeterra readjusts the timeline, and in a world where Shurima never vanished the Institute could not exist. It is again an imperfect transition and so relics are left behind, including the old Fields of Justice.

With the spell complete, and to make sure it is never needed again, a powerful magical construct is created to prevent large magical damage to Runeterra. This construct is Bard. He's not some cosmic being, he's a creation from another time sent to do a single purpose. I've actually been waiting to see if there is any conflict between Bard and Ryze, as that scroll is definitely something that could cause massive damage to the world.

I took it upon myself to come up with an idea of how I would have handled the retcon if it were my decision, and this is what I ended up coming up with. It's probably wrong, but it was a good bit of fun to think about and it helps cover certain inconsistencies.

Overall the game is seperated from the lore,so it is not like Bard fighting alongside the others for no reason is canon. When bards lore gets expanded,it will most likely introduce a threat that is so great that bard needs to step in.

it is also possible that Bard tried to stop the shadow isles, but failed to do so,or only managed to prevent some damage. In xeraths case it is actually possible that he intervined,I mean Nasus and Renekton appear during Xeraths ritual, despite xerath making sure they were elsewhere.

The resurrection of Sion and Aatrox bringing war is probably of no concern for bard anyway. What is the resurrection of one individual anyway? And why would he bother with human wars? Its not like aatrox starts these wars,he merely intensifies them.
