Quests ^^
#Hello peoples,
##Jack here to talk about quests :)
Let's just hop in : Currently, as you might know, League has three special quests that can be activated in special situations, though one is restricted to the Crystal Scar (Dominion).
Other than that are many little ... Easter Eggs to be found, like with Caitlyn and Vi against Jinx or with the "This unit is a flippin' ninja!"-passive.
So yes, there are quests, but they don't really play such a massive role in League. Sure Rengar gets 1330 potential free gold from the Kha' Head, and sure you get a 50 second 10% damage increase, but the quests just aren't prominent.
But could they be?
Aside from the three quests, couldn't there be more, small little fun quests that actual affect your game and your chances of winning? That offer new tactical perspectives and team- and counterplay?
If so, they'd have to be very well balanced, and the system would have to be ...* unique*, but also non-unique.
That's probably confusing, but I'll try and explain how I mean it :)
Note, this is merely one of many concepts of how to add quests to League, but it is the one I find most interesting :
(I'll start talking as if I'm assuming quests will be added from now on)
We tie quests to the mastery-trees ^^

(Back to the beginning)
#####(Step 1)
So, assuming quests will be added, what will they offer? What could they offer that isn't seriously broken, or anti-fun?
Lemme see ... there's
- Gold (obvious)
- Experience (meh)
- Items? (probably not ...)
- Stats (+X maximum health, +X basic attack, etc.)
- UNIQUE Passives (Receive X less damage from monster attacks; increases attack speed limit to 2.7 attacks/sec. ; gain X movement speed in brush ; deal X% more damage against enemy champions ; etc etc etc. - anything is really possible, there)
#####(Step 2)
So these quests, wouldn't it be unfair if a given quest was just thrown into the game for everyone to fulfill? Like X% more damage for Y seconds as it is in Dominion? That wouldn't be too useful for tanks ...
-> Obviously there'd have to be individualized quests for every chosen role (not champion, because that would be non-versatile and anti-fun), and with chosen role I mean (for example) support Jayce.
#####(Step 3)
So how would these quests be chosen?
Oh, I don't know (^^), can't you think of any other individualized aspects of League, any at all, that the summoner might chose himself?
Maybe like Runes and Masteries?
I'd suggest quests be chosen pre-game by the summoners.
#####(Step 4)
So everyone just chooses, say, three quests pre-game and that's it?
Uhm, imho that could be it, but in no universe would I ever do that. It's just too simple and not really fun. What would be the difference between quests and runes, then?
No, I'd suggest tying, as I mentioned earlier, quests to the mastery pages.
I don't think the mastery pages would have to be re-named, but the logical suggestion would be naming them "Jack's awesome pages of awesomeness".

See how well that fits? As if the name was made for it ... (jk ^^)
Anyways, there would be FANCY scrolls here ... (1) (look at picture beneath)
(Maybe you can name the scrolls yourself, similar to mastery pages)
And this bar would be shoved up a bit ... (2)
And by clicking on a scroll it would roll open, downwards over the mastery page ... (3)
And clicking on the arrows would scroll over to the next scroll (only three scrolls shown at a time) (4)

####Ofcourse this would all be awesomely animated and designed just like the current UI is. Riot's good at that kind of stuff ^^
Now, to the actual quest-system.
Here's my suggestion :
- Free scrolls are given out at certain levels.
- All other scrolls are bought in the shop with IP.
- Scrolls are tied to the mastery pages.
- You may only have 6 scrolls at once in a mastery page.
- You gain 2 "points" per level, a mastery point and a scroll point. This adds up to 60 points in total.
Here's an example :
http://i.imgur.com/G6eZnlQ.png ##The Hunter's Prize (Quest)
5 points in OFFENSE required.
Costs 10 Points / 15, if requirement is not met.
Slay 5 big monsters and return to the shop to gain X gold and the UNIQUE passive 'Jungle Veteran'
JUNGLE VETERAN : 'insert random jungle-bonus here'
This is just an example, though ^^
That's the great thing : With quests, everything is possible!
This Quest could just as well be ...
##The Hunter's Prize (Quest)
1 point in Butcher and 2 points in Tough Skin required.
Costs 10 Points / 15, if requirements are not met.
Slay 5 big monsters and return to the shop to gain X gold and the UNIQUE passive 'Jungle Veteran'
JUNGLE VETERAN : Increases the duration of jungle buffs by 10 seconds.
So you have 60 points, and 30 mastery points, which are independent from each other. Spending mastery points into certain trees to meet requirements just means you have to spend less points on certain quests.
Here are some more interesting things that can be done with quests :
- "This quest is activated when you reach level 6"
- "This quest has X time requirement"
- "This quest can be repeated"
So there can be all kinds of quests !
Imagine one where a support has to block X damage with shields on others to get an 5HP5 Aura permanently!
Or one where you get a wave of enhanced Siege minions for destroying a tower.
Or one where you get an extra 10% AP-ratio on all of your spells for buying Rabadon's/ any other item.
Of course, rewards can also be time limited, however I'd only do that on repeatable quests :)
The possibilities are limitless !
So ...
Do you get the concept?
Do you like it?
Do you have any quests you think would be good?
Please give feedback in the comments ^^
Edit : Maybe the names of the scrolls could be visible in the loading screen, so you can counter your opponents quests ^^
Edit 2 (important) : Of course there could also be actual masteries that affect scrolls& quests. Something like "all quests grant 10 extra gold (good for repeatable quests)" would be possible then, or "gain 5 extra scroll points".
Maybe there could even be actual perks that give quests on their own ^^
Imagine quests next to the final perk on each tree, which would give a role specific quest with high risk high reward.
#Hey guys :)
####I changed the way "scrolls/quests" work. You now have 4 slots for scrolls, however you can only have 3 scrolls maximum (because some scrolls might cost 2 points, instead of one - better scrolls).
Usually a scroll will cost 1 point, so you can easily get 3, but some will cost 2 or even 3 points, and depending on if you haven't fulfilled the requirements, the cost on scrolls increases.
Here's an example :
http://i.imgur.com/ej0yvgW.png
I dubbed this quest "The quest for Grandma's cookies" and it's intended for supports.
Under the name you see a small scroll which I stole from here (don't click on the link, it's some random website) and next to it the number 1, indicating that the scroll costs one "slot".
Next to the 1 is a red cross, meaning that that if the requirements are not fulfilled you cannot use this quest.
Then there are 3 points :
-Requirements (what masteries you need to take in order for the price to not go up).
-Quest (an explanation of the quest).
-Reward (it shows what you get if you complete the quest).
-Other information is added as needed :)
Other than that I've edited a screen shot of the shop to make you see how it would look in-game.

So Account and Boosts are put together to make room for quests/scrolls.
And this is how it looks when you click on the Quests button :

Note that this is only a concept.
As you can see it's all the same quest here and the picture doesn't really look that good, since I can't draw that well and I simply jumbled together some photos.
I've set an example price for "2 scroll" quests at 820, but I think most should cost ~515 IP.
So, what do you think, again? :)
Oh, and here's the other quest (from the picture) :

About this quest : If you slay 180 minions / monsters at X minutes you receive all the rewards.
