[Champion Concept] Rikur, the Bankmaster of Zaun, + Raena, the Pickpocket of Piltover
What happens with gold while you're laning and in fights etc? It just sits in your pockets and does nothing. I decided to take advantage of this, and came up with two wildly different gold-based champion concepts.
Rikur and Raena are goblins, with pointy ears and height-wise are halfway between a yordle and a human. They are brother and sister, but are basically mortal enemies. Rikur inherited the family business (a super-powerful bank in Zaun), while Raena got shunned by her family and turned to thievery and crime to support herself.
Rikur and Raena are opposite ends of the spectrum in terms of how I involved gold in their kits. Rikur is a "good" guy (as good as anyone can be who finances all the terrible experiments in Zaun) who uses gold to support his allies. Raena is a ruthless thief who steals gold from enemies.
Rikur, the Bankmaster of Zaun
Passive: Money is Power
Instead of mana, Rikur uses gold for his abilities. The amount of gold Rikur currently has is displayed where the mana bar would be. Rikur carries a bag of gold with him and uses it for his basic attacks. As Rikur earns gold, the size of the bag and his attack damage increase. Gold is heavy though, so he loses attack speed and movement speed as a trade-off.
Q: Rolled Gold
Rikur takes a roll of coins in his fist and punches his target (skillshot maybe?), knocking them back.
W: (Passive) Vested Interest
Rikur gains bonus armor and magic resist with gold.
W: (Active) Investment
This is intended to be a high risk/reward ability.
On activating, allies near Rikur are given the option of investing a set amount of their gold with him. Rikur cannot spend this gold on abilities or in the store, but he gains bonus stats from his passives for the duration of the investment.
If Rikur doesn't die while Investment is active, he returns the borrowed gold with interest based on how many kills/assists he got during the active period (investors don't get any bonus gold if Rikur doesn't do anything, to avoid him just sitting in base and multiplying everyone's gold at no cost). If Rikur DOES die during the active period, he returns only a percentage of the invested gold (but does not keep the remainder).
E: Insurance Policy
Rikur can hide gold in stashes that are visible only to him (not even his teammates can see them). Maximum three stashes at any time. Collecting these stashes returns a percentage of the gold to Rikur, as well as healing him. Rikur can place stashes while Investment is active, but only with his own gold, not his allies' gold.
Enemies and allies may reveal Rikur's stashes with a sweeping lense or pink wards. Allies can collect revealed stashes for half gold and a small heal, while enemies can collect revealed stashes for only half gold.
R: Impregnable Vault
Rikur places a large vault (with health and armor/MR based on his own stats) on the map and starts a countdown. Allies who click the vault before the countdown ends gain Rikur's protection and are locked inside the vault.
Enemies must destroy the vault to reach those inside, who are invulnerable but cannot attack for the duration. Nothing can get into the vault until it is destroyed, but Rikur and his allies may teleport or recall out.
notes:
- Corporate Mundo and Gragas, esq. get a higher R.O.I. from Investment.
Raena, The Pickpocket of Piltover
Passive: Thrill of the Chase
Raena gains bonus movement speed when moving away from enemy champions.
Q: Contempt for the Wealthy
(This is sort of a play on Zed's Contempt for the Weak, but in the opposite direction)
Raena's next 2 basic attacks deal bonus physical damage based on how much gold the target has earned total.
Contempt for the Wealthy has the potential to turn around fights against super-fed carries as Raena deals tons of damage to those with lots of gold, but doesn't really bother those who are lagging behind a bit.
W: (Passive) Pickpocket
Every 10th basic attack, Raena consumes a bit of mana to steal (level) gold from her target. Only attacks against champions add stacks to this, and she can only steal gold from champions.
To clarify, Raena actually steals gold from her target, she doesn't just get bonus gold for attacking them like Gangplank's Parrrley.
E: Dagger Toss
This is another high risk/reward ability.
Raena skillshots one of her daggers, slowing the first enemy it hits. After x seconds, she can skillshot her second dagger with the same results. If both daggers hit the same person, the target is stunned briefly.
Raena loses some of her attack damage until she picks up the daggers. If both daggers are out, Raena has very little attack damage, so be careful how you use this skill.
R: Kidnap/Ransom
Ransom is a very risky concept, and I'm not sure how to balance it so people won't abuse it. I liked the concept though, so I thought I'd include it in Raena's kit.
Raena dashes to her target, making herself and her target invisible, and suppressing her target. The target's allies lose sight of him/her and cannot see the target's vision. Likewise, The target's vision is reduced to themselves and Raena.
Raena can move around with her captive, but at 50% speed. The target may cleanse, eat an orange, quicksilver sash etc to escape from Raena.
For the duration, Raena deals low physical damage per second to her captive, until someone on the enemy team pays her a set amount of gold (the ransom). Raena can cancel the ability early to deal a large amount of damage, but she cannot damage the target for x seconds after she releases it.
EDIT
R: Heist
I decided Ransom would be too hard to implement properly, so I'm replacing Raena's ultimate with Heist
Raena jumps/dashes to a target location, and anyone in that area has to give her x% of their current gold (this would be funny if the enemy team cleaned up in a fight and Raena jumped them afterwards to steal all their winnings.) If Raena escapes with the loot (i.e. she doesn't die within x seconds), she gets to keep it. If she DOES die, she has to return the gold to its original owners.
Notes:
-
Raena and Rikur will have an egg between them like Zilean and Volibear or Rengar and Kha'zix.
-
Raena might have a similar egg to Jinx's with Vi and Caitlyn

I'm out of time to add more notes but please let me know what you think of these two champion concepts!
