ya C9 got stomped... but

arc95··6 votes·978 views

as a long time c9 fan I'm still happy... they're the only na team to make knockouts in 2 years

and they competed well with many of the top tier teams

but now that the season is over I will be taking my energy back I have midterms to study for >.<

They did. The problem is that mechanically they were one of the worst team overall at Worlds and the worst remaining in Knockout stage (well, maybe tied on ANX depending on if their worst mechanically players perform bad), so even if they play somewhat well (except for Impact being rekt in map awareness by CuVee in game 3), they weren't able to execute their plans

I'm talking about the team that had the longest gametime @worlds together with a lot of bad bad games/plays.. If they gave SKT a run for their money you might say they competed well, but no they got stomped twice.

C9 is not a very good team, though, C9 competed well for what were their possibilites and their shortcoming, especially mechanically and various underlying problems. VS SSG they had good performance for most of the games but then they got overwhelmed by the fact that SSG is just plain better than them in basically everything

The strength of a team and a team performance are two things that go hand in hand but are not necessarily the same thing. People thing to match them 100% but they actually means different things Splyce is not a strong team, but they performed decent, C9 is not a strong team but they performed decent, TSM is a strong team, but they performed kinda bad, EDG is a strong team but they performed kinda bad

I have no doubts that TSM is stronger than C9, and they showed flashes of brillianca in the win vs SSG (with an asterisk on SSG p/b and on Wraith playing as sup) but they performed worse than C9 because they faltered in the crucial moment

Well tbh everybody said TSM > C9 > CLG. But if you look at the games they played the games of CLG were on a higher level than C9's. Splyce preformed decent because they actually gave some teams a good game (first game vs TSM f.e. should have been won by Splyce) and showed that they know how to play. C9 on the other hand mostly played 50 mins clown fiesta games except vs SKT where they got roflstomped.

I agree on the EDG part.

Again, because they are not good, but this doesn't mean they underperformed or not competed well compared to CLG and a good number of other teams

If you are an NCAA team and you are going to pkay vs an NBA/NFL team, you are going to play a bad level of basktball/football for an NBA/NFL team standard, regardless of the fact that you are doing relatively well for the individual level of your own players vs them and that was enough to beat other NCAA team that play at the same your bad level (in comparison to NBA/NFL)

Guess we have a different definition of competing well.. Which is fine.

yes they got stomped by arguably the best team...that would've also stomped tsm and clg if they were in C9's group? but C9 actually got out of groups hence they beat other top tier teams, which means that competed well in the tournament

SKT would not have stomped TSM this hard (for example Bjergsen wouldnt have been solo killed 3 times in 5 minutes or so). And to say the fact they got gifted 2 wins vs iMay and FW (esspecially FW) is competing well seems strange to me... It wouldnt have been strange if C9 ended up at the bottom of the group, while before Worlds everybody put them at number 2 easily (including myself).

Just look at summoners insight of Thorin and how they laugh at C9 and how bad they played.

Nope, they did not. Imay and FW were not top tiers by any means, To say that they competed well because they beat those teams is incorrect C9 competed well, but it is for different reasons. It is because, despite being a weak team, they tried to be active and compete with the other teams regardless of their level (the first 20 minutes of the games in their SSG series were probably their better display in their entire tournament despite being swept 3-0 in the end), and they didn't mentally faultered when it mattered for them, contrarily to what CLG and TSM did

the group they made it out of was not joke... and they at lest made the top tier teams work for their wins with the exception of ssg

Ehh this is a C9 post, not TSM.

If the structure wasnt limited to 3 teams a region, none of the NA teams except maybe TSM would have gotten in. Cant call C9 top tier when a ton of other teams are stronger but had to compete in much harder regions to get in and missed the cutoff

no NA team is anywhere near top tier despite being considerably better this season... what I said was "competed well with many of the top tier teams" meaning they put up a fight and weren't just across the board flame horizoned and perfect gamed

and if they didn't limit the amount of teams from each region "worlds" would just be LCK fall split with a couple lpl and a lms team
