and so far in the TSM C9 series we've had 3 top laners, 3 junglers, 3 midlaners, 2 adcs and 4 supports.

Pretty diverse

Well, balancing is a pain.

You either balance for the pros, or balance for the general masses.

What's it going to be? It's impossible to do both.

Meanwhile, in Dota 2 nearly every champ is being played professionally.

Riot's been balancing around pro play for a while now and it obviously isn't working. The same champs are being played in every single game.

That because of how Dota 2 was designed and the tournaments are played. Dota 2 tournaments have far more matches than League ones so you'll see far more characters in Dota becasue of just how many games they play.

Also Dota is balanced around hard counters, meaning if one character is viable it drags a few more with them meaning more diverse picks. You don't see this in Lol becasue it's a far more casual game and hard counters would make the game far more stressful. Oh and when I mean hard counters I mean like Karthus versus Katarina/Fizz levels of hard counter.

Because they're balanced for pro play exclusively.

They keep trying to balance for both, and that's the problem here. They need to pick one, and stick with it.
