It's because Yasuo is a decent pick against assassins and counters every immoblie mage in League, making Brand and Xerath an impossible pick. Because mid is also the most coveted lane in League, a great majority of people play League and a great majority of them hate Yasuo. Of course he'd have a difficult time against tankier foes, but by the time he meets them, he's usually super-fed off of their midlane mage.

Except what you describe isn't counter play.

What you describe is the following:

"If a Yasuo, by some completely random accident, manages to use all of his tools and still get stranded next to a mage, you have about 3 seconds to blow him up while he is restricted to auto attacks and a 4 second Q."

Yasuo Counterplay:

Walk around/through his wind wall (counter intuitive for almost any affected champion, so it's not really counter play)
Dodge any knock up his team has (varying difficulty)

Oh yeah, whole lot of counter play on Yasuo.

Or you simply didn't list the other ones? Like popping his shield before going ham, aim skill shots at where he's heading, realize he's squishy af without tank items, has no escapes so you can camp him? Stop acting like yasuo has no counterplay, if he did have none he'd be pick/ban in lcs.

seriously I roll my eyes whenever I read about people complaining how yasuo is op. "His windwall, mobility, manaless, shield, ultimate is OP" is basically almost always what I hear about him. His windwall has a high ass cool down while he builds almost no CDR. You can bait it, walk through it, or aim around it. His mobility is limited to mainly offensive mobility, requires multiple targets usually minions that he cant dash through again for a decent time and his dash paths are very predictable. his shield can be popped and disappears with autos and spells, something I do all the time before trying to make real trades. his ultimate is so conditional and dangerous that a lot of times it usually ends up getting him killed. Finally if you cant do any of that ( solo lane is probably not for you) then just ask your jungler to gank since he is extremely susceptible to ganks. Not a something I like saying as a good laner needs to be able to go at least even in lane without needing the jg. I don't like yasuo but damn is he easy to beat

Thank you. At least i know that the boards do have some people that aren't yasuo nazis, and yes I agree. His tankbuild is busted but really yuo can prevent him from being a threat by camping him.

How much of League's TOTAL playerbase is in high level Tournament play like LCS?

Less than 0.1%. You have more players in Challenger rank than you have in LCS.

LCS is also comprised of teams that are several times more coordinated than ANY solo queue team of random players.

So to that end, competitive tournament play is going to have a different meta. Yasuo isn't pick/ban because he is a pub stomper champion. He is designed to play well against uncoordinated teams.

I'm also going to remind you that popping his shield isn't always feasible as most mages, even with a basic attack. There's also the fact that once you pop his shield, he can easily stay out of your range and recharge it while keeping up in CS via Q.

He is a POPULAR pub stomping champ and is designed as a pub stomper.

This is from an older post of mine but here are some general ways to wreck Yasuo...

ok dashing if he over dashes to minions he will perma shove the lane enjoy your free xp easy cs and easy lane win(also easy ass ganks if your jungler is a little bit decent because yasuo has no mobility outside of a minion wave and if its shoved he has nothing to dash back to)

windwall has a 20 second cool down he simply cant windwall everything... if he wastes it punish him

shield... again takes a while to stack, pop it every time its up(easier if your ranged...and if he windwalls a ranged auto to save the shield punish him because he cant block your abilities), reasons why you can wreck him with Varus(if you have some mechanical ability i.e ability to orbwalk)

dont stand still in a minion wave walk in kill minion walk out...and again dont stand still makes auto weaving extremely easy...a good Yasuo will never stand still neither should you

number one mistake...no one pays attention to his stacking... oh Yasuo has flow shield whirlwind(Q) and e stacked(and shiv if he has it)... seems like a good time to walking right up to him...if he has everything stacked wait a second the stacks only last a little bit

etc etc

EDIT: also play Diana or Riven[sticky/bursty champions...Akali, Cho, LB, Rene, Nasus etc](or any Juggernaut) you will smash his face

Edit 2: want to know how to wreck yasuo...CC simple as that... Naut late game = useless Yasuo (but any hard cc in general)

Edit 3: OMG I CANT OUT RUN HIM BROKEN MOBILITY...run into the jungle not through your minion wave again no minions to dash to no mobility

I played a lot of Ryze against Yasuo recently and damn it must be tilt inducing for him. Reason being is a when the time comes when I can play really aggressive and can start eating his damage with my shield (which usually means I eat the tornado to keep doing damage) he has to stand there snared unable to ult me. Don't matter how many time he smashes that R key, my snare says nope.

He does have counterplay, everyone does. But since most of the League community doesn't know how to counterplay (the ones in Bronze V) most of the League community hates Yasuo.

Hey, I don't hate on Yasuo much. If I wind up playing Brand against him, I realize I can't win the lane and just prefer to stick near my tower.

The only thing I don't like about him is double the Crit chance ( item 3031 and item 3087 means 100% crit on Yas) since if anyone else wants that, they're going to have to get at least four crit items if they have no crit runes.

What I wish they'd do with his passive is just give him 10 or 20% crit chance passively or an extra 1/2 on his crit chance rather than double. Remove it completely if they have to, the shield is good anyway since he can withstand your pokes with it.

Imagine if someone's cc lasted twice as long. Or what if Darius put two stacks of hemorrhage on you per hit instead of one? That's just crazy.

But yasuo does lose crit damage and since his only reliable forms of damage are from aas and qs he sorta needs double crit to be a revelant skirmishing threath.

Nooo, he doesn't. His extreme mobility in lane thanks to Sweeping Slash and high damage output even before he starts building crit makes him a good enough skirmisher as it is.

Maybe passively give him 10-20% crit chance or something, but don't double it.

His damage output is really low if you don't get lucky crits in lane or have phage really. Compared to the average midlaner he doesn't get level 6 bullshit spikes.

Then play an immobile mage against Yasuo mid lane. Seeing it from another perspective really changes your view. I used to think Darius is crazy stupid overpowered, but I played Darius a few times and realized he's only slightly overpowered.

That and even if the stun is windwalled, it is only wasted if the ability connects, so after Yasuo windwalls her Q with stun, she still has it.

That really doesn't matter much because he is dealing twice the damage you are able to put out. The lane is still 60/40 in favor of Annie but it isn't a guaranteed win.

I really like Yasuo as a champ and I used to main him when his main build was Hydra Shiv IE, but they broke him with these new tank items and tri-force. I don't go around complaining about him, but seriously. It's not just him, it's really just all melee champs.
