Necro'ing an old thread title I remembered to bring this up.

Regarding the NRG-Coast fiasco, I'm glad to see that whoever manages the NA LCS is bar none the most spineless coward the world has ever seen. I'm also glad to see that really the Challenger scene doesn't mean a damn thing if all you need is a couple million dollars.

To CST Shrimp, Cris, Mash, and Pekin Woof, I'm sorry that your brand is full of money-grubbing scumbags.

To NRG, fuck you for ruining the integrity - what little there was - of the NA LCS. Keep your money race out of eSports, you're not wanted here.

To NRG KonKwon, I sincerely hope you didn't jump and run when and if NRG offered you money. I thought camaraderie meant something, but I guess not.

And to you, Riot, because I know you manage both NA and EU LCS...have a spine and stop mising. You're plenty rich already.

I don't think they have riot money. They purchased coast from whoever owned them. Then changed team name and roster. Riot can't stop people from selling teams they own.

I don't think they changed team name. They have a CS;GO team I think. It's owned by a different org so it gets that org name, but I think theirs was already set when they bought it.

They have to change the name or it will still be coast. They didn't buy a spot from riot they bought team coast. Terminated the players contracts or didn't renew them, changed names then hired there crew. Think like when cursed turned to liquid. Same team has the spot. The change in players doesn't effect anything since teams place in the lcs not players.

I guess, I mean I was more saying that LCS teams don't have names as much as they have organizations. If a company buys the Houston Texans then they generally are buying the merchandising rights to that team. The team is branded, but no by the organization or investors, it has its own name and trademark.

Saying that NRG bought "team coast" would, from a traditional sports perspective, seem to imply they bought the team and right to market it as team coast. If someone bought the TSM CS:GO team, there is no way in hell Regi would give them the right to market their "Team TSM" CS:GO team and sell merch for it. I'm not sure if coast is an organization that has multiple teams or much branding/merch sales, but if the NRG company doesn't own the right to market their team as team coast and sell related apparel and stuff (which if the coast organization doesn't only exist as this lol team wouldn't be allowed bc they would have trademark over it and not pass that on w/ the team) then they aren't so much changing the name bc they didn't own the name. Coast as an organization sold the spot, and I would argue LCS teams don't have a name unless we're counting "team" as a name. The reason I'd say this is that if NRG had bought the LCK team the Tigers that finished 2nd at worlds, they would have become the NRG Tigers (like they were the GE Tigers and then Koo Tigers when they had those sponsors/brands). You see the same thing in LMS where Flash Wolves are the Flash Wolves and dropped the Yoe when that was no longer their organization/sponsor, but in NA do we have any teams that would keep their name if their sponsor/owner changed?

The brand size matters and who owns the brand. If someone bought tsm as a whole they would probably keep the tsm name since the brand in itself is worth money. If someone bought a tsm team they would change the name since they would want to promote and grow their brand.

Dude, I'll have some of what you're smoking. If you let me buy a TSM team (don't even care if I keep the players) for anything close to what I can buy another team for, and I don't have to change the brand and can market my team as "TSM" w/out paying royalties/being sued I'd take that in a heartbeat and so would anyone else that's sane. TSM is a huge organization, they would never sell a team as "team TSM" unless they are selling the organization. If someone is allowed to market a TSM team and not change anything after buying it they can market most of TSM's merch and just charge a little less than TSM does and make a ton of money. It's trademark infringement I'm pretty sure if you tried to keep the team named after the organization that used to own it if you don't buy the org. No one would give up marketing rights to TSM brand if they somehow received them by buying a TSM team at a reasonable price. That would be idiocy. Start a new team and have them grow the brand you want to grow, and just use the TSM team to market TSM merch and make money off the success of all their other teams that sell their brand. Your TSM team doesn't even have to be any good if it lets you market their brand w/out paying them. Hell it's probably better if they aren't, get terrible players who will work for low wage and just make tons of money from the marketing name you just received in a deal so bad for TSM they would never make it.

Dude, contracts for the players expired. I think one was still active and 3 were expired on 11/16. They weren't even coast players anymore. Do you hire the same guy to fix your plumbing regardless of how he did the last time just bc you used to have a contract w/ him? Why should esports be different?

Constant turmoil within teams/orgs doesn't work either. NA seems to not build as much and prefer to just swap out players way too often after a bad season (at least that is my perception).

foot ball is a game , different countries go compete in another country to win the 1st place price it can be 20 to 40 teams in different brands and athletes , same as with leage tho , your in or out for it doesn't matter , Leage is game that went pro Leage starting season one , so same as for players gamers of different countries win or lose for the 1st prize , the match matters not the money , its different and new better than football or a twilight story

It would be the same as someone buying a pro football team, moving cities/changing names and revamping the roster. Exports wants to be considered among the likes of pro football and basketball and what not, well that is one side of it. Owners are in the business to make money. If, for the owner of team coast, he was making more money to sell the team than he could easily make gambling on his chances of winning tournaments or placing well during splits, which lets be honest, was a longshot, then it's a smart move to sell. I think it sucks for those players, yes. But if they want to be in the LCS, then they need to continue to perform at that level or risk missing their chance. Pro baseball players are constantly losing chances with the farm system that exists throughout the MLB. Players might be called up, pitch one outing or one inning or pinch hit once, then get sent back down. That doesn't mean the owner is scum for not giving them more chances, it just means that player still needs to improve to show he is worthy of the spot.
