Why aren't we seeing Ryze in professional play?

I personally think, aside from his ult, Ryze is really good after this most recent rework. It's basically like he has a function from each of his reworks and it honestly all feels pretty well together still. He has his built in AoE, the shield and movement speed, just a bit of CC, plus his ridiculously high wave clear and damage output. And even though I personally don't care for Ryze's newest ult, it certainly isn't useless and has a lot of potential.

So I can't help but to wonder why we're not seeing him more in pro plays? It is just one of those deals where he is indeed good but the current meta just better per usual?

Actually, I think he's in the ideal place, where he's not "must pick" but he's not a "you lose" pick either.

nothing like a lux laser reposition or a 5 man save yet? who would be the person to congratulate if they even did that am i right? it takes just as much teamwork and knowledge from your allies as it does for ryze i guess.

i can imagine someone using ryze to reposition ms fortune behind her opponents for a multi kill as they're running away, but ms fortune would have to know to fire backwards and to position herself on the circle accordingly.

He is easily counter-picked. Anyone with proper mobility can avoid his damage due to his W being weak and on a long CD Ahri also merc treads ruins it . anyone who has a large amount of AoE range like Anivia can zone the fuck outta him

He lost a lot of his early game power, scales kind of too slow, and getting picks off him got a lot easier. That my reasoning at least. He just needs some SOME early game buffs and I think he would be in a much better spot, preferably to his E.

He's higher damage, but less survivable. Honestly I'd think that would make him a good contender for mid lane since top and jungle both tend to be pretty tanky, but I think a lot of mid lane threats right now probably bully him too hard. I'm not sure he can deal with Cassiopeia
