2% off; save yourself a whole 25 RP! This is literally one of the best discounts I think I have ever seen come from Riot; it's so perfect you could literally use those two images to sum up Riot's whole business practice and their goals with League. GJ Rito, I am thoroughly impressed. [slayer-pantheon-thumbs]

Where is the " . " after 299 ?

or is it 29999.0

Cents are displayed in a smaller font

Don't say that, at least you learned something right?

The smaller "99" is understood to be the ".99". It's just often stylized that way in American price tags.

Velzard of Koz15 votes

I've seen it in Europe too. I don't understand why Angel is so surprised tbh.

More on the matter plus proof: I am from central Europe (it may be possible westies or nordies have it differently, maybe Angel is from north or south). Googled two czech catalogues from the same state and the same mall. Once they use the comma, once they don't. Really seem like a matter of style. http://www.aktualniletaky.cz/al/9238-lidl-aktualni-akcni-letak/lidl-aktualni-akcni-letak0s.jpg http://www.lidlletak.cz/obrazky/lidl-letak-od-17.6.13.jpg

Got something similar here in Norway.

Kinda a bad example, as sale prices are usually displayed with a stylized "00", whereas regular prices mostly got "90" listed instead.

The Kroger by my house sometimes puts sale prices that are higher than the original just so people think they are getting a discount.

DeathBot6666 votes

Sue.

That's technically illegal.

waste of time, too many businesses use the practice.

It's so common here that noone believes in "sales" now in my country

People like to sue too much. They seem to forget their screwing a real other person over.

Yes, they are indeed forgetting this...

sigh...remember when skins above 975 would come out at a price tier directly below their intended price tier for the weekend?

Sraeg201324 votes

Remember when half of the now-1350 skins were 975 permanently before?

Gregor Gysi1 votes

What do you mean?

Sraeg201318 votes

A long time ago in a galaxy far far away there were no 1350 RP skins. Then they were added.

NuberGladHe8her24 votes

Remember when: apparently the original plan was to have Champs priced by how difficult they were and the 6300 ip champ was supposed to be a rarity.

Owyn2 votes

oh yea and remember than announcement "meh peh we'r gonna reduce all champ prices every now and then absolutely by schedule "

PaladinNO3 votes

Talk about LoL nostalgia! ^^

I read them saying we would get ranked Dominion. I read them saying limited skins would never get re-released.

Is it just me jumping to conclusions here, or are Rito Gems - now Tencent - not really trustworthy?

Leetri7 votes

Plans change over time. Riot made a bunch of promises back when they were a naïve, new company. Think of it as a child promising their friends to always stick together and that they're gonna be astronauts. As they grow up they realize that's not a possibility and were stupid for making that promise in the first place. You have to remember we're not talking about Blizzard or Valve here, Riot started as a team of modders with basically 0 clues how to run a company. A lot of the issues stemmed from that the game exploded in popularity and they had no idea how to run a large company with a popular product. At least they've finally started making good for some promises they made in the past, and going forward it's going to be a lot easier with the new client and the structural shifts in the company. They still mess up sometimes or things don't go as planned, but Riot isn't alone on that. You should always be critical of anything a company does and think for yourself, blind trust leads to you taken advantage of, but to say they're completely untrustworthy is a bit far.

yeah, also remember when skins with only a base model change were always 975, 750 didn't exist, and you paid 520 for retextures?

remember when they lowered the price of 76 975 rp skins to 750 / 520 and 3 1820 skins to 1350, compared to 17 skins from 975 to 1350?

i loved not having the 1350 tier or 750 tier and always paying 975 for skins that are way worse quality than other 975 skins, that was my favorite skin pricing system

Sraeg20136 votes

also remember when skins with only a base model change were always 975

I don't remember something that wasn't true. There was a lot of model-changing skins in the 520-tier before repricing.

Plus, now in like 80% of cases you are only getting 1350-tier skins.

Such a win-win situation.

Giga Kahuna4 votes

here's my references before you ask for a source

http://na.leagueoflegends.com/en/content/skin-rp-price-changes http://leagueoflegends.wikia.com/wiki/Champion_skin/Retired_skins http://leagueoflegends.wikia.com/wiki/Champion_skin/Available_skins

skins originally priced at 520 that changed models, before a character was reworked: 26

this means you had 26 skins out of everything that changed a model and weren't 975. i would even say 25, but waterloo miss fortune changes tiny bits

adding on skins that changed models and were lowered before the introduction of 1350 and 750: 36

wow holy hell such a wide range of model changing 520 skins. but wait, now we add another 36 that were added in the 2013 price reduction. now half of the model changing 520 skins are because of riot reducing skin prices because of the 1350 tag. such a terrible, terrible thing they did.

we have 109 model changing 750 skins. 40 of them are skins that used to be 975. ALL of the skins in the brand spankin new 750 tag (when it was introduced, obviously) were 975. and only changed models. pretty much all pre-2013 975 skins that are currently 975 only change the models. there's a few that change effects (oktoberfest gragas, lulu's release skins, muay thai lee sin to name a few) but it's not anywhere near the same quality we have now

skins released in 2016: 52, 38 of which are 1350, 5 are ultimate / legendary, the rest are 975 / 750, meaning 82%~ of skins were 1350 or above. sucks ass.

however, in 2015 87 skins were released, 32 of which were 1350 or above, meaning only 37%~ were 1350 or above.

i didn't bother counting every skin for 2014, but it looks more like 2014 was even between >975 and <=975

so yeah having one year for mostly expensive skins while the past 2 - 3 years have been mostly cheaper 975 / 750 sounds fair to me, and having the 1350 tier introduced and used more for better quality is pretty fair for having model changes shifted to being cheaper

don't forget how model changes are also much higher quality AND cheaper than before

sigh...remember when skins above 975 would come out at a price tier directly below their intended price tier for the weekend?

That was delayed when they added the Early Sales. Skins no longer have sales on release, they now go on Early sale like 3-4 months later at like 30% off (which equates to the tier below in most cases except for Ultimates). So this sale practice is not gone, just delayed.

I don't recall if they addressed how legacy skins will work in this sale structure.

PaladinNO2 votes

Early sale like 3-4 months later

It's 4-6 months. http://eune.leagueoflegends.com/en/news/store/sales/were-changing-discounts

As for legacy skins, they are excluded from this alltogether. Event legacies are getting individual treatment, but only during those specific events.

Non-event legacy skins goes on sale or are bundled up whenever they set their mind to make a non-scheduled "event", like this one: http://eune.leagueoflegends.com/en/news/store/sales/satisfy-your-sweet-tooth-sugar-rush

And speaking of sales: http://boards.na.leagueoflegends.com/en/c/help-support/aAE77dmu-are-there-going-to-be-a-rp-sale-for-this-christmas?comment=0000

Ad Vitam Aeterna3 votes

Thats many many many many months after most people already bought the skin. Riot knows damn well people would rather buy the skin as soon as possible, that why they shifted the sale from early to late.

Ad Vitam Aeterna1 votes

Those are completely different. The OP of the original thread was punished for being toxic, and he most likely was punished leading up to the perma. In this first link the guy wasn't banned for being toxic but for leaving games, much different. In the second link the guy never even got to go through the punishment tiers.

Deep Terror Nami4 votes

You just want to argue, you don't actually care about this lol.

Ad Vitam Aeterna1 votes

I clearly do care, I brought up valid points. They are nothing like the original thread we were on. In the original thread he was actively toxic recently and had most likely been punished before. These two cases are completely different for the reasons I already went into detail on. You claimed they were similar issues, well they aren't.

Deep Terror Nami2 votes

I disagree. A punishment for negative behavior is a punishment for negative behavior; they are the same.

Besides, these are merely the only ones I was able to find atm. They are not the only ones I have seen; I have seen identical cases reduced.

Velzard of Koz10 votes

you could literally use those two images to sum up Riot's whole business practice and their goals with League.

They sell texture recolors HotS has/had for free (for playing a hero) for money with two over-priced IP sales per year. Now they even ceased to give those chromas to classic skins, so they want you to pay RP for something you have already paid RP on. And whenever they make something for "free" (except for four cases I remember so far in 7+ years of history) it's complicated system that only encourages you to spend more RP. Not even fact that this is supposed to be F2P apologizes it (since you still better take that RP shortcut for the OP champs).

And people are still surprised. We can only get ot terms with it and occasionally rant. Oh well...

Sraeg20136 votes

Smite sells recolors for both in-game and premium currency all year round. Also logging in and participating in events actually gives you the premium currency, so if you don't want to spend money to get top of the line, you can still eventually get them.

With Rito around you can't even get fucken chromas without waiting for Christmas.

ModAcademy Kayn2 votes

I'm pretty sure when they started making Chromas again, they did discuss buying them through IP, but it was meant to be for specific occassions/sales.

Velzard of Koz3 votes

They mentoined they'd do two sales per year (that already is where I could stop), they did only one last year because reasons and seasons (excuses, more like), now they acknowledged that in last AskRiot and promised two sales this year.

PaladinNO4 votes
Sohleks10 votes

The discount is bigger if you need the champion which in your examples you already have.

It goes up to 12% of over 2000 rp.

Champion Skin2 votes

Yeah but.... buying champions with rp? And buying a skin for a champion you don't even own yet?

That doesn't seem like the best idea?

PaladinNO7 votes

Yeah, these "sales" have never been a particularly good deal.

Frankly, after doing the numbers, the Early sales-feature is nothing short of a rip-off. 1350 RP ~ 7.42 EUR / 975 RP ~ 5.36 EUR. But who bothers to wait 6 months to save a measly 2 EUR? Likely not the majority, and Tencent knows this.

The promotional sales on 1350 RP skins was better, and it never bothered me that legendary skins previously never went on sale either.

But sometimes, a sale at least got some amusement value: http://oi68.tinypic.com/23ixedk.jpg

Just a pity they never own up to it, blames it on a visual glitch, fixes it, and just give a middle-finger to us all about it ever happening.

MagikarpIsBoss4 votes

Those discounts are there for if you OWN both champions. I checked my game, and it shows up as 10% for Lucian and 12% for Quinn. I don't own either champions. Anyone who will actually buy the bundles for what is in there (because you wont buy a bundle if you only want the skin and own the champ) will get a real discount. However, 10% really isnt that much, only like 200 RP, which is still shitty.
