ANX's impact on eSports+the bonus of 5 bans per team

Simply put, playing by the meta does not guarantee the win. With the Brand support blow out on the pro stage, ANX showed the world meta picks are for people who are afraid of risk and taking crazy chances to take down large opponents. In an interview, even Aphromoo said that ANX has shown Korean boot camps may not be the way to go for the plays. Coming up with your own team comps on your own terms to put up a challenge may be the better option...

Keeping this in mind and and looking back at earlier "Ask Riot" posts, on of the Rioters said something about POSSIBLY changing the number of bans from 3 to 5. Thinking about this in recent events on the worlds stage, this is probably the best idea for the league of legends community and especially the eSports leagues. We all complain about how its the same handful of champions picked, sometimes they trade teams and then there is the occasional slightly viable counter pick in play. The problem with that is that games aren't exciting or enticing. Another Gnar vGangplank or Gnar vEkko was the story of the end of the summer split. Now its Kennen Rumble Poppy Jayce almost all the time in worlds. Aside from ANX who pull out crazy random picks nobody expects to blow people out of the water, its the same champs game in and game out.

Now add in 5 bans. Ban out 10 of the some of the most viable champions and most played champions right now.

I know i probably picked differeont ones than you guys but this is what i have scene plent of.

But what does that leave on the table that we have seen at worlds? Maybe these guys? I am not sure I have seen most of them AurelionSol Gnar TahmKench Braum Brand Azir Alistar Zac Taric Syndra Ryze PoppySkarner

This also leaves room for HUGE niche picks that players are secretly good at and never get to show off! Maybe some pro player has some sick likeSwain support or something idk, but the 2017 season could be really killer with this new philosophy started in eSports

Honestly, I feel like increase bans would not do much. Why? Because you can ban 10 champions, you will still have the next best OP thing. It doesn't change much when the game works in a meta game

With that said, the easiest way to increase diversity is change the rules about picking same champions between games

If game a team picked Syndra, game 2, she is not allowed. This way, this games 10 "bans" per game and 6 actual bans. It also creates strategy in so many different levels. It would be amazing because this rule actually has been proven to work really nicely with games that enforce it like Dota.

Well the idea of increasing bans in competitive play is that pros would either counter pick or ban the top tier generalist picks while enabling diversity by forcing the teams to switch up their compositions with more unique niche picks as well as building an entirely new comp to reinforce the new pick. That professionals would be forced to take more risk which theoretically leads to more interesting games.

Uh, Brand is way OP and has been for a long time. He was banned afaik several times at world's already. And didn't Riot even give him a special buff for the world's patch too? [Lol, but they never play favorites with champions, never.] So if someone kicks a lot of ass with him that shouldn't really be a surprise.

But I totally agree that 10 bans would be a very good thing.

ANX's impact over the course of Worlds boils down to a few bullet points.

  • Playing your way as a team might win you a game instead of trying to outdo the Koreans at their game.
  • Your star player better have more than one champ they can play well. -Pick and ban better than a Bronze team if you want to seriously advance in knockout.

I guess it depends on the way new ban system is going to work. If bans are to be completed BEFORE pick phase, this wouldn't change a lot. If bans wiil go alongside picks in pick phase, then it adds more strartegic complexity to the game, because you can recognize the team comp your enemies are going for and effectively prevent them from doing so.

I think they should do something along the lines of banning particular champions agreed on by all teams prior to any matches being played. For example, most of the pros would know after Week 1 of Groups that Syndra Caitlyn AurelionSol Nidalee would be >75% pick/ban. So what if they submit their 3-5 OP Tier picks prior to any games being played for Week 2, then keep 3 specific match bans. Before going into Week 2 of Groups those 3-5 voted OP Tier picks would be disabled for the draft, and then it works normally from there. It would open up more banning of comfort picks and targeting certain players.
