Amumu, and his WELL DESERVED Lore boost

Amumu Is by far my favorite champion. Kind of an under story and I feel underplayed champion in league of legends. His kit often lacks for a great gank in the JG and reliant on the ultimate very heavily for successful ganks and team fights. I personally play him more as a support, simply because I have founds ways of combining my favorite champ and favorite roll in a pretty decent way. But even then, he's got little use under 6 unless the opposing ADC makes a MAJOR MISTAKE a Q can capitalize on. But by late game he is in fact a powerhouse that shaped the dynamic of team fights, landing his ult and giving his team a chance to wreck the ADC JG and whoever else is ahead, and giving the well needed team push.

Much as he is ignored by the league community for his power I feel like he is also ignored in his lore and story.

Before I get bashed right away about "What about his recent promo video?! That helped his story?!", Yes it was a good story and a promo, I love it. In fact, I bought the song off of Google Play and Listen to it regularly. While it was a great video, i feel like it wasn't exactly a great lore boost...Anyone who plays the champion can pick out his skills in the story and see, oh, i see why they make sense in the story, and i see why he is sad all the time.

Here is a link to the video if you haven't seen it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cY6SlRK5SIo

More specifically I'd like to poke at his lore. I think it is very well written and it gives the chance for the readers to think, and to wonder about Amumu. I am going to paraphrase this but if you wish to read the lore yourself i found it here: http://leagueoflegends.wikia.com/wiki/Amumu/Background

The story is told by an old wise man, to a group of small children. He tells the story of a man, wondering a through a dark tomb, scavenging, for gold, for jewels, for something. Just quick monetary gain then out He find a golden statue, depicting the late Shurima prince, who is also depicted on the walls in many hieroglyphs. The pictures show the prince walking among his people with them bowing to him in the dirt. Another one him sitting cross legged wrapped in gold and jewels with the sun shining around him. The last one shows the prince, dead, and the closest people to him crying, but everyone else cheering...The man wonders about this...What kind of a prince was the person laid in this tomb? Beloved? or a Tyrant? So the man starts to leave, but hears a boy crying. It worries him. His instincts tell him a boy wandered in here, the same way he did and got lost. So he travels deeper into the tomb to find the boy. I comes to a room, with water all over, covering its surface. He takes a handful of the water and drinks it realizing its salt water. The crying was close to him, so he called out to it "Are you lost? How did you get here?" The man fumbles around around the dark with a torch trying to find this crying child. He finds a figure and walks toward it. A sound resonates from around the room. "I don't remember...I don't remember who I am..." He replies "Be well, all will be well child." He soon realizes the figure he had found was only an onyx statue. But he feels a dry bandage against his skin, accompanied by a hand and a voice ... "Will you be my friend??" The shock made him drop his lantern. The dead child grasped his hand. That hand soon started to fall to dust and disintegrate, and he went running out of the tomb. After reaching its exit, the man is distraught, and sad... "I'm sorry...I didn't mean too." The story is now over and the kids have their debates over how real Amumu is or what he is, Yordle or not, but they are urged to bed by the story teller. Thats when one little girl asks "Well what happened you your arm then?" He gives her a wink and sends her off to bed...

Lets take apart the story...The promo is what happens after, after the story teller has unearthed the tomb of Amumu and gave Amumu a chance to be free and find his own friends. Amumu doesn't recall anything past death. So he cannot tell us if he was the prince on the walls or any of what happened to cause his death. We don't know when he died. It could have been centuries since Amumu was in power, possibly even well before any of the Shurima lore that came with Azir Cassiopeia Nasus Sivir Renekton Xerath honestly if it was centuries the only thing that could tell us about Amumu would be Shurima archives if Azir kept them. Velkoz seeks knowledge, but I am not sure if he is exactly a time traveler, and our two time travelers Zilean Ekko have their limits on hour far back they can reach. So all the lore has solidified is a possibility of what Amumu was and nothing locked in.

Except this important fact...Someone does care about Amumu...

The Story teller ran off before he could understand, but after he did, he tells of his regrets in the story. Its how he copes with leaving this child into unfortunate and lonely circumstances when he could have helped. Maybe telling his stories could lead to a friend eventually. Maybe the little girl who was ahead of the rest will seek out Amumu because of these stories. But even these are just extra guesses.

Those of you who took the time to read this have now seen all the questions left unanswered with Amumu's lore. But with the Shurima lore apparently becoming complete after the arrival of Azir, I'd like to point out that the PRESENT of Shurima is complete, but not its history...

With an open ended story like Amumu's, how long can Riot keep this possible lore time bomb sitting unused and ignored, much like his sad and lonely state? Honestly, think of the possibilities...You shoot a huge lore promo, get people hyped. We get Amumu's story from the archives, Azir reads it to him, the idea of his life jogging his memories, he remembers, whether good or bad prince, of what he was. If good, he continues the righteous path. If bad, his lonesome journey has changed him and he can fix himself. You have a flash back, show Amumu before death. That becomes an Ultimate Skin or Expensive Legacy. He's human, dressed as a Shurima Prince, His abilities are based off the Shurima sun as a depicted in the wall with him surrounded by it, his quotes, his jokes, the change, and they are happy as he was before death, he's not lonely anymore...you show him hugging his family and friends, him playing with a brother and sister, give Amumu closure almost. He could still retain his name as the sad mummy but at least he knows now what he was. Heck, there can probably even be a shurima game mode out of it like Azir's! You could bring back Azir's game mode considering Amumu was a prince and is fighting for power too!

Amumu's story has so many untapped possibilities that bothers me that is ignored. The fact that he is ignored is probably why I made a joke hashtag when something dumb happens in league, #WhyMumuCries.

Thank you for taking the time to read this. Even if these things don't happen at least my opinion is out there somewhere and someone is reading this. From one Amumu main to others!

I do like the idea of an ammumu lore boost, although i prefer the Idea that ammumu was the lonely monarch that split himself in two and became kindred. And one of his subjects found his body in twain and mummified him to give him a proper burial.

I too love Amumu, i've taken him JG, Sup, even Top, but unfortunately i don't think there's going to be anymore Amumu related things. The reason i say this is because i feel like Amumu's lore is left kind of mysterious, or open-ended for a reason. First because it gives players the option to imagine they're own backstory of what actually happened (some people like that kind of thing, not me personally but some people), and second because I think it gives Rito and easy out in case they run out of event ideas. However I am so glad somebody posted about this you bring up great points, and awesome ideas, I'm so glad i'm not alone in my Amumu love

I'd really like to know the reason and the purpose of his curse. Was he obsessed with eternal life and caused his own demise, just like the Ruined King? Was he a selfish prince that got punished with neverending loneliness? Is the curse meant to teach him what's important? If he learns it, what's going to happen? Also, now that Runeterra's lore has been retconned, is he still friend with Annie? With the Institute of Justice gone, he's probably never met her. Maybe Amumu is still out there, all alone. item 3070
