Where is "Everything" for IEM?

TheGrandAlliance··3 votes·1,356 views

...the IEM event apparently is a super secret one... because none of it appears in the schedule section nor the VOD section of LoL E-sports site.

Is it only available via livestream on Twich?... If there are VOD or otherwise matchup information... why is there nothing to this effect on the official LCS website?...

It's not on the LCS website because it is not an LCS event, it is technically an ESL event, and it includes other pro games like CSGO and SC2. I imagine it has something to do with ESL having the rights to the broadcast that keeps it from being post on the LCS page.

LOL yes I assumed as much... although I thought RIOT has "control over everything" of course?... I guess not.

As posted in regards to other non-worlds international events: I fail to understand why do we care about this event especially if it will just disappear from the history books as soon as it is over. If it doesn't exist on Lolesports.com... it is like it never even happened...

In other words... lets say you completely new to LCS action and just started 1+ month from now. Will you even know that IEM happened? Probably not if it is as hidden as it is now...

Yeah, it definitely doesn't have very much to do with actual world rankings. It is an opportunity for players to win some tournament money and to play against international competition. I didn't know anything about the IEM tournaments until recently when it seemed like IEM San Jose was being hyped up a bit. Apparently IEM has been a Gambit claim to fame? You are right though, it will be remembered a lot less than LCS results and championships

Also as I see it, it's a chance for TSM to test their mettle against the GE Tigers. By the way, C9 went down in a ball of flames too.

I wouldn't say it is a Riot Fail. They do not broadcast the IEM stream (as it has its own twitch/youtube channels). LoLEsports will likely be updated after the event (with authorization of ESL which is the organization that brings IEM events about).

All information that RIOT can provide about this event is restricted because they are just a game that has been invited to the Event. Which is why you hear multiple Analysts and Casters mentioning ESL youtube channel instead of the LoL Esports Youtube :P

IEM as an Esports Event has been around since 2011 and Gambit(Moscow 5) has been in the top 4 of all previous IEM world champions (sad day when they were eliminated on this one).

Uhmmm... yes all that is whatever and the like: Alas last time I checked RIOT owns the "Intellectual Property" of LoL and its TOS/EULA gives it absolute control over how its game is used (including tournament events and the like). The fact that RIOT allows a loser Intel-backed organization to pirate its activities and have the arrogance to call itself a "World Championship" (especially since Hearthstone, Starcraft II and LoL all have their own company-issued leagues (Blizzard; Riot)) is itself a "Crime Against Humanity"...

In other words... IEM and its 9-year history at its attempt to "invent E-sports" is the reason why 90%+ of gamers think that E-sports are fake... because they are. IEM and its activities are nothing more then a 3-day "infomercials" for Intel products... and have no desire to do anything about anything regarding the Video Game industry.

I mean come on... Intel still claims that their "integrated graphics" can somehow replace the use of a dedicated GPU (Nvidia/AMD). I mean how can you reason with people who "deny global warming"?

Your reasoning is like Riot/Blizzard is attempting to go to a wedding (IEM) and take it over as their own. It just isn't done. Your reasoning about Intellectual Property aside, because it is as ridiculous as the above statement. Your personal opinion on the event should not play into WHY AN EVENT HAPPENS.. Also it is called the IEM World Championship, because it is the LAST STOP ON THE IEM TOUR.

Another thing, ALL TOURNAMENTS HAVE SOME BIAS ON PUBLICITY!

I'm ignoring your last statement, because who the hell cares.

Look this issue is about "Brand Management". RIOT does terrible job with this (and Esports).

Allowing IEM to take the spotlight, and then make it like it never even happened, hurts the brand image of LoL... It is as if "real sports" like the NFL to allow its teams to participate in third-party events. Or even international ones. By "legitimatizing" IEM you hurt the image andf the significance of LCS... especially since inter-league play here is limited.

Now... you may disagree with this logic... nonetheless the track history of IEM/ESL has consistently shown to wreck the image of E-sports. Why do so few gamers (even LoL players) disagree with the logic that "e-sports are a sport?" When events such has IEM happen that is why.

Just watch the opening ceremonies for evidence to this effect... IEM competition is a complete trivialization of competitive gaming... throwing random games and players together and calling an event. Would this be fair if the games in question did not have a pre-established official tournament sequence (such as older or less popular games)? Perhaps... but if you actually pay attention to the script of the opening ceremonies; such as claims that "the best teams around the world come together to find out who is the best" and so forth, it is clear that the IEM people somehow think their event supersedes BlizCon/LCS Worlds in terms of "skill"... hence their "World Championship Title". There is only one LoL World Championship... and that is LCS.. not some made up IEM thing.

Of course... being that few of the "best teams" even participate in this event it is no wonder either. Who wins IEM? Who Cares?..

You of course might likely be so... nevertheless you're like the 1% of E-Sports fans who do. If the goal is to promote LoL and other games as "sports"... events and false-flag leagues such as ESL just do everything humanly possible to trash this effort To deny this is to deny the shear statistics that indicate that "interest"/Viewership/Revenue or otherwise is almost non-existent for "E-sports" when compared to other video games genre participation.

This has nothing to do with "personal opinion"... this is the overwhelming opinion of a supermajority of gamers (and world population even if that is relevant) who could care less about E-Sports. IEM is a shame to the effort of E-Sports (as other failed leagues before it) and shouldn't exist at all in the first place.

LOL yes I know that it exists somewhere on the ESL site... alas the point of this thread is that info/details/VOD of a RIOT-owned game event doesn't appear on a RIOT-owned server (lolesports.com).
