STOP POSTING SPOILER MATERIAL ON THE FRONT PAGE OF LOLESPORTS!!!

Meanie40··45 votes·6,923 views

Listen, you know, I know, and everybody knows that people in North America that have lives can't watch Worlds live.

It's disconcerting to log on to lolesports the night after to catch up, and see the result as the lead story in the big picture box.

Thanks for ruining my Worlds viewing experience.

Hey folks,

We've built lolesports.com/vods to be a spoiler-free experience for catching up on the games you missed. Bookmark it, check it out and definitely give us feedback on what you'd like to see improved in that experience.

This isn't exactly common knowledge as I hear people complain about this quite a bit. Why not have a landing page on the site that asks whether you want to continue to the site or view spoiler-free vods? Then people could bookmark whatever page they needed.

It seems unfair that the default model is open spoilers and not spoiler-free (This concept seems so alien to me). People who don't know about the /vods/ page lose a lot of hype/hope for their first game they check on this way.

EDIT: Or you could utilize cookies in their choice to continue to the main site, at least that way they would know of the /vods/ page.

but it should be common knowledge. Maybe they're just blind/ignorant. I always see the link "click here for match with no spoilers" 24/7 at the top. I guess they just don't read much

At the top of what? I believe you, I'm just not sure where you're seeing it.

At the top of lolesports ... where if your screen happens to be large, the spoilers show beneath.

Like this, though I don't use the lolesports website itself. http://www.surrenderat20.net/2014/10/this-week-in-esports-world-championship.html Before you scroll down at all, below the big picture, it says "[Warning: There will be spoilers after the jump! Check here for spoiler free Quarterfinal Post!]", Clicking on "Check here" will then lead you to this. http://www.surrenderat20.net/2014/10/2014-world-championship-quarterfinals.html

While very popular (Moobeat is the man) It's still a third party site that a lot of playerbase may still be unfamiliar with.

ChimeiTekinaNasu1 votes

Most people I know knew of it long before me. newsoflegends and surrenderat20. I guess they might not know those sites. idk. So I guess the setup of the lolesports site is different then. http://www.twitch.tv/riotgames/profile/past_broadcasts Bam. Completely spoiler free. If they go directly to the stream itself. lol

Kid Freljord2 votes

I'm not sure what point you're trying to get across here. Are you saying you're against a small one time popup to warn people of spoilers on the official site?

I know spoilers are something to be expected from the site, but not everyone's first thought is going to be of Twitch, especially with the framerate/loading issues some people seem to have.

Exactly this.

That's not the point.

I don't want another bookmark on my computer. It is incredibly rude of you to suggest I do so.

The problem is there is a "Hide Spoilers option on the site http://na.lolesports.com/worlds/2014/worlds-2014/schedule, so I use that site to make sure I have the right time for the rebroadcast. When I went to it today before the SHR OMG Semi I was automatically redirected to http://na.lolesports.com/worlds/2014/worlds-2014/schedule/finals which had the Final listed, spoiling the Semi final. I understand that there is a good reason to have a page for the Final, but why in the world would you redirect me there when I have spoilers turned off?

The main thing /r/loleventvods does and you guys don't is give me links to the picks/bans and game start, so I have to skip through the video manually to get where I want to go.

I also find that it takes longer to get the youtube player up and ready on lolesports.com/vods than on /r/loleventvods.

As far as the Schedule page is concerned, it's really weird to have the "Spoilers On/Off" default to On AND be at the bottom of the page. You have to scroll past all the results to turn it off. It'd be nice to have that button at the top and for other pages around lolesports to remember your choice.

I use http://www.reddit.com/r/LoLeventVoDs/ for all my actual game viewing needs. Avoiding spoilers is one benefit, but they are also much better at organizing the game content and getting me to the start of the action quickly.

I only go to lolesports for live streaming.

They ruined last years finals for me. I had to work the night of the Season 3 World Championship finals; I get home, boot up and the first thing I see is "CONGRATULATIONS SKT1" plastered all over the front page. I've already learned that I literally have to avoid absolutely anything League related on the internet if I care at all about not having a game spoiled, but it's stupid posting these super spoiler titles all over the website and the client immediately after the games finish.

AndThePigGoesMoo5 votes

I stopped watching because of this. I logged in the other day to see the vod's of the c9 matches and first story before i could click anything was telling me that they'd lost. Well thanks, Riot. Guess I don't need to watch them. >.<

Haha, you actually watch that garbage.

Learn to dodge the spoilers scrub, ive been doing it for years

Like a one week grace period would be nice! ;-; Sometimes I don't have the time to binge watch all (possibly) 5 games in a single day. I'd like to watch the VoDs without knowing the outcome immediately.

Great TSM lost, lets see when they lost the one team-fight that sealed the deal. Oh hey C9 lost, DAMN THAT WAS AN AWESOME FIRST GAME!!!!!!!!! Great now I know that they're going to suck for the rest of it.

zythorlol2 votes

Agreed. With the matches streaming so late, I fell asleep into match 2/5, only to wake up and see the results spoiled on the frontpage news section.

To avoid seeing the winners, now I skip the news section entirely and go directly to the VOD section, which DOES hide the results:

So you'd rather waste time to find out the outcome of a 3-0 round? Not me. If it's a match I'm truly interested in I'll either get up earlier or still watch the replay to see what went well/wrong. Other then that, it's like people who record football, why? If I can't watch it during the initial broadcast I just want to know the outcome and the highlights and then move on.

TinyPole2 votes

I got burned by this as well. Now, instead of the main page, I've set my favorites to bring me directly to the VODS page:

Seriously, it makes me want to strangle babies. Broadcasts games @ 3am the post spoilers in the morning, fucking idiots.

"Oh I missed the NBA finals and** I dont want any spoilers**. let me watch a downloaded version of it. However, before I do that, let me visit NBA.com for the hell of it...OMG DAMN NBA.COM for spoiling it for me".

WTF, are you guys that stupid and dense?

AndThePigGoesMoo1 votes

Thanks for the tip, Smoking. I'll definately have to start using this. Sort of sad that we need to use 3rd party sites to do stuff that Riot should be able to figure out and execute on their own though.

Izento1 votes

I agree, they really need to stop posting scores on the main page. All of NA just wakes up and finds the score right in their face before they even see the match.

lets focus more on the broken servers 1st thank you.

I'm surprised people actually really care about esports.

Killrazor1 votes

why shouldn't they spoil it? It is not a movie, it is sports. Scores are always spoiled when you go to a site for sports. So what did you think would happen at the lolsports page?

Konidias1 votes

Honestly I just go to twitch and go to Riot's channel... go to past broadcasts and you can just watch the latest worlds broadcasts right there. Spoiler free.

The only spoiler I have noticed is if it's like a best of 5 match and one team is up 2-0 and the video only has like 30 minutes left on it... well... guess who is gonna go 3-0?

Kinda sucks.
