If Unicorns of Love were in MSI, I'd give you a decent chance he'd show up. As it is, I'm not sure what Malzahar would offer over other champions.

The suppression ult isn't going to be as useful as you think. If it's a problem, then the ADC will take a 
or the support will take a 
, assuming someone doesn't already have a way to cancel Malz's ult (knockup, interrupt, silence, etc.)
Contrast that to Cho'Gath's ult, which is instant true damage and Baron/Dragon control. Oh, and at level 6 it comes up as often as Malzahar's level 16 ult.
The AoE % max health could tip things in favor of Malzahar. That will come down to the teams involved, it's hard to say.
I'm not saying it couldn't happen or won't happen, just that I don't think it will.

Serevas1 votesMalz is terrible for competitive, his ult makes him a sitting duck, he's literally only good on solo queue, and that's largely at low elo, because anyone worth their weight in salt can comprehend that you build QSS and Malzahar's damage suddenly disappears because he can't keep you on the % health circle of death. You can also take Cleanse, or have anyone CC him since he's immobilized while suppressing you.

Serevas1 votesThe entire point is that Malzahar is dreadful in a team environment because it takes basically no effort to break the channel. It's why Katarina isn't common either, because Katarina is super free wins in solo queue as well. Ranked 5s and Solo queue are entirely different game types, let alone pro play versus normal people.

Serevas1 votesYeah cleanse was a mistype actually, but the QSS late game item mentality is precisely why people whine about Zed. There's really a reason not to buy it if you need it in lane to prevent free death, which a point and click suppression typically causes. He's either strong enough to solo kill you, or he has backup to finish the job. He's not just going to throw down the ult for fun and it's got long enough range to hit you under turret without return aggro unless you're behind it. So either don't farm and stay away from malz after 6, or suck it up and buy the QSS.

While his tank melting ability is great in the current meta, lack of escapes is too easily exploited by Challenger/Pro teams. However Malz absolutely dominates in Solo Queue where people are not as coordinated and sometimes try to 1v1 Malz (lol?).
