Welcome to the 2020 LEC Season
Play this theme up top.
Well folks, it's time for another season of pain, agony, and false hope. After EU shit the bed …. again in the finals for the 2nd year in a row, a decent amount of pieces were shuffled around in the annual talent dump. Time to see which combatants will enter the Thunderdome.
Important note: Yes I exist, I wasn’t posting for a bit since I’ve been applying to colleges. Got accepted to the one’s I’ve wanted BTW. In addition I’ve had to focus more on my school work and hunt for scholarships. But now I’m back!
-
Excel: After a rather Mediocre season they decided that a shakeup was needed in order to find relevancy. Exile was .. well exiled into the spirit realm and replaced by wandering journeyman Mickey who is sort of like the Fitzeption of the League of Legends scene, he flashes his talent when you least expect him to but when you need him he gets smashed in lane after a failed all in. I see another sub 500 split looming.
-
Schalke 04: This team is the epitome of boom or bust. After enduring a painful loss in the gauntlet, Ignar left for the big money in NA. You also had to scramble to find a jungler most likely to start a never ending caracel of them like TSM. The big signing, FORG1VEN!! What could possibly go wrong! Former Worlds semi finalist, has a reputation for being toxic, 27 years old, and hasn’t played on the pro-stage for 2-3 years it’s perfect. Oh and Odoamne is still around.
-
Fnatic: So you’ve survived the loss of CAPS last season and even outlasted RNG at worlds. That’s good and all, except you lost Broxah in the annual talent exodus as he got paid by Steve. There’s still hope though, Nemesis looks like he’s ready to take the next step to becoming an elite mid laner and Rekkles is still as reliable as ever. Please don’t waste another year of Rekkles’s career, pretty please?
-
G2: While you might say that making it to the finals was a success, you know that last season was a failure. You’re goal wasn’t to just make a deep run into the Worlds playoffs it was to win the finals. Instead it was the exact same thing as 2018 but felt even more painful than last time. The humiliation that could have been avoided against FPX is a stain that will linger for a while. You want to silence the doubters? Simple win.
-
MAD Lions: At first I thought Lions were the new kid on the block when I realized. They are just a rebranded version of Splyce. Unfortunately the only player that fans outside of EU even know exist is Humanoid. I can’t get a read on this team even though they tend to exceed any expectations put on them.
-
Misfits: After another roster shuffle Febiven is the only piece remaining. There are a lot of question marks for your team going into this year. With half a split of experience for the young core this season again is likely to hinge on Febiven. May we hope that a surprise stud pops up out of nowhere.
-
Origin: One of the few teams that were able to keep their main roster intact. Nukeduck emerged as one of the mid laners on being the cusp of being elite. The rest of your roster is solid with Xerxe, Alphari, and Upset. While your raw talent might not keep up with the likes of G2 I think you could play spoiler in the gauntlet.
-
Rouge: Yet another forgettable franchise that is desperately trying to find recognition. Aside from Hans Sama the rest of the team still needs a few more splits together to really develop. This is a recurring trend in the LEC. Trick still can’t seem to recapture his dominance. Jenax I believe still needs one or two more splits to become the franchise mid laner they need but is capable of meeting those expectations.
-
Vitality: So you had a strong spring split only to fall second fiddle to Fnatic and then follow up with a disastrous Summer Split. You opted to go for a fresh start at mid lane and let go of the frustratingly inconsistent Jiizuke. While the peaks may not be as high, you don’t have to endure as many valleys. Even though the rest of the roster is solid, we all know and you know that Milica will need to develop if you hope to make it back to worlds again. May YamatoCannon lead you to oh wait he’s gone too? Yep you’re screwed
With the starting narratives in place, I will predict what place each team will be at the end of the spring split before playoffs.
I expect G2 to take care of business as they kept their pieces on the team then Fnatic to fall second fiddle again ... 3rd place is up for grabs but I think Origin has a solid enough roster for a decent split. Unfortunately I don’t know enough about the other teams to know how they will do, though it looks like a crapshoot. I would say Vitality but they lost a decent bit of their identity this offseason. In the moments I saw SK play they showed decent promise last year so I’ll go with them.
Now I wonder who will go out to shit the bed at the Worlds finals again.
Feel free to comment and shitpost. My main rule is to only dish out what you can take.
