Because hopefully they have learned not to have a tournament on a patch with massive changes to the game anymore. The last thing these teams needed after making it to MSI was to play on a completely different patch that just went live.

they usually let pros get used to new champs/fix a lot of the bugs first

I think new champions are banned from professional play a week longer than they start using the patch anyway.

I don't know about that but even if it is true I don't think it applies to reworked champs as that didn't happen during the adc update.

Nah it's just new releases. I don't remember the exact duration they are banned, but I know for a fact they do it.

Ah here we go;

8.4 Competitive Patch & Tournament Realm The 2016 Season will be played on the current patch available on the Live Service, once a sufficient testing period has occurred. Changes to the competitive patch will be at the discretion of the LCS.

8.4.1 As a guideline, the competitive patch will be updated a full calendar week after its release onto the live server. A patch will not be implemented if a week of games or a playoff round has started. Example: Patch X.X was released on 11:59pm, February 1, 2016. It will be eligible to be used as an LCS competitive patch for all matches on or after 11:59pm, February 8, 2016 unless a week of games or a playoff round has started.

8.4.2 Champions who have not been available on the live service for more than 1 week will be automatically restricted. Champions that have undergone reworks will be subject to LCS discretion. Example: Champion A was released February 1, 2016, so Champion A becomes eligible to be used in all LCS matches on February 8, 2016.

Both patch and champ are a week after they're live. A champion is usually released a few days after the patch, so there should be a few days gap between them in LCS as well.

I will take your word for it, while I watch a bit of pro play it is never first on my to watch list.

because they don't wanna make the pros play in a meta that might be broken in theory. the pros won't have enough time to adapt to all the huge changes in the patch, and the patch itself might just bring a bunch of unbalanced factors that harms the competetiveness of pro plays.
