I'm Lost. CLG still has to play Regionals. Who's Going to Worlds for NA right now?

I know TSM is qualified to go. What about IMT and CLG who got 2nd and 3rd place? Why does CLG still have to play?

Each region only sends 3 teams to worlds. The first seed team is the winner of the Summer Split. Second seed is the team with the most championship points, and third seed is whoever wins the gauntlet run.

Since TSM won the spring split, they have the most championship points. However, since the won Summer, they auto qualify. Next team with the most is IMT, since they got second in Summer, and C9 fell in quarter finals.

It's not a simple 1st, 2nd, 3rd system.

imt is going they auto qualified from championship points since they had the most, the third team is decided by a guantlet made up of the 4 teams with the most points who did not qualify already, c9 at 90 points(tied with imt but since they ranked higher they qualify over them) clg at 80 dig at 30 and flyquest at 30, p1 loses all points since they were relegated.

I'm kinda confused on the whole IMT thing, it's very similar to say C9 back in 2015 spring/summer

Cloud 9 2015 Spring - 2nd place, lost in Finals 2015 Summer - 7th place Had to play in gauntlet

IMT 2017 Spring - 7th place 2017 Summer - 2nd place, lost in Finals Auto qualified

Just another reason on why I personally would like the splits combined, a more simpler Finals winner - 1st Seed, Runner up - 2nd seed, 3rd place winner - 3rd seed. It's bad enough a team could be a$$ 1 split(Spring) have 1 meta shift in their favor and win Summer Finals, 2 weeks before Worlds the meta changes and back to being a$$.( Isn't a diss at IMT ) just never cared for the Summer Finals winner being auto qualified and the point system is just meh to me personally.

To be fair, what you're referring to led to possibly the greatest and most memorable sequences in NA history where C9 reverse swept two teams and beat the then-relevant TL 3-1 to go on and play at worlds.

For me, they just need more teams in general (kinda hoping franchising does that) so that we don't have to worry about splits. Ditching championship points would also be a really nice idea, as then they could go off of cumulative winrate and use that as the "Decider" for everything (winner of playoffs at the end of the split would get 1st seed, the highest winrate among the remaining two teams would get seeds 2 and 3).

More teams in the LCS would be awesome, that was something that would have "kinda" helped Eu for example with the 2 division things but literally with 1-2 good teams and 3 garbage tier in each, didn't help splitting them up. IDK about the servers(if it's even possible) but NA/EU combined might be something in the future, I HIGHLY doubt it tho as obvious reason stated above tho.
The next thing is, is there even enough talent in NA alone to even have more teams, I know NA will have B- to C tier players on their sister/challenger teams but will it help in the long run, maybe, maybe not who knows ?

Not going in detail as I'v said this like 100 times already but having a steady Season over 2 splits, 1 Finals/Playoffs in turn will also give players and the schedules to be flexed to give players actual rest during a say 5-6 month season.
If you think about it having a full season, is honestly no different than say 2 splits, but 0 points and the Spring split winners is still somewhat useless. I mean look at CLG during Spring last year and the out-cry from fans, they won NA Spring, had an awesome MSI performance but slumped during Summer but was auto qualified for Worlds and people S$it on them, goes to show Spring Split for the most part is useless in some degree as well as from the fans.

I understand your concerns about the summer split having too much of an impact on seeds, but the same could be said of the spring split.

Take CLG 2016 for example... they went from a triumphant Spring split to a pathetic summer split where they looked like a solo-que team and just barely managed to secure 4th place. It was more than just the meta shifting away from them, they were just flat out bad for the entire split. should they have gone to worlds that year? no, but they did anyway because they had done well earlier in the year.

It just goes to show that the Worlds qualification system is inherintly flawed because it allows bad teams to get in either by:

winning early on and then doing the bare minimum until Worlds
performing poorly for 2 splits but then getting lucky by having a Summer playoffs meta that heavily favors them

That's why having the 2 splits instead combined makes more sense and either way you slice it, either having a combined season or 2 splits, is honestly no different. Teams are still going to either be bad half way into the season and some are going to become good, vice versa.

Another positive having a combined season are the awards, 30 total 1st through 3rd team awards are given out, 2 MVP awards, 2 coaches, 2 rookies after awhile it just feels like "free candy" that's really just given out. The awards are honestly meaningless is my point. Like does anyone even care about the All-1st team Award winners, I know I don't because less than 2 months after the spring split another group of Winners takes the previous winner's place. So no real accomplishment for the players.

A long season(18 weeks//36 total game series, teams can also say take 4-6 weeks(8-10 game series) to really develop their young talent, without really feeling the burn to make playoffs etc in the too short(9 week) splits. Example would be say EF subs in their subs to test them out in the first 4 weeks(8 game series) and they go 0-8, 0-8 in a 18 game series split is pretty much a death sentence at that point, and at that point what's the point in trying to win? Instead 0-8 start wouldn't be as bad, if instead of 18//10 game series to improve, they would have like 28 more game series to correct their mistakes and still have room to still develop their talent down the road, can't do that with the current format.

Because CLG has lower championship points than IMT. Only thing the 3rd place game was for this year was deciding who would play Flyquest round 1 in the gauntlet
