Question about Statistic Gathering

I don't know if this is the right board to place it in, but here I go!

Recently I've been doing economic studies as a sort of hobby, since I love doing number munches and analysis of business/community relations. In doing so, I've been wanting to sit down and make a pretty long analysis that touches on the current E-Sports league and how the economics are developing from what they used to have been: basically, relating finances back from when your most famous esports games were RTS-based (Starcraft, Warcraft, C&C and Age of Empires, etc.), to how the world of Esports are today to FPS, MOBA, and MMO style structures.

My trouble is, I've been having trouble coming across proper statistics areas where I can raw data to really make a valid argument/synopsis of a given area. To be more specific, I'm trying to find statistics in regards to revenue based on sponsorships, general overview of statistics regarding budgets and profits in the gaming scheme, both on the professional gamer side and the company side, and some facts over, say, expenses some players may have whilst being on a professional team.

I know Google is a very useful tool, but sometimes it leads me in the wrong direction. Does anyone have a good idea of where I can start grabbing any raw data that pertains to finance or the like when it comes to corporate sponsorships and what revenue they generate as a result of giving say sponsorships? And is there any sources out there that can help touch on the gaming scene right now, and how tournament payouts have changed (this I gathered from an economics book printed at MIT: more specifically, Dal Yong Jin's book Korea's Online Gaming Empire, but I'm looking for more concrete data than his constant back-and-forth mentions of Korea's gaming scene to the world's gaming scene)?

I've already planned on emailing esports teams to get a semi-structured idea of how economics work with players on teams, but I'm running into brick walls for concrete details on finances in the business structure.
