@Riot: Are you guys ok with the design aspect of Aurelion Sol?
, a champion that is very unique in its design is something I adore as it gives him an identity that no other mage really has. What I'm curious about is whether you guys view him as fitting for the current meta.
Is Aurelion Sol going to be impacted by the upcoming mage update? Do you envision him to still match up well versus other mages? Do you also have any plans to retweak numbers or touch on him before you do the mage update?
I ask this because observing his kit, it seems like he has an identity crisis for the meta. Yes his champion identity is unique, but what does he bring to the table as a champion that others can't do? I feel that his design is meant to be a champion that is more for show than it is for skill or actual interaction, and it often feels like the design of the champion self-counters whoever plays it, as people are often trying to overcompensate his range. Plus, add in how his E feels too clunky to really use effectively, and it feels odd as to how you play the champion. I like the idea of having a highly mobile champion, but I don't like locking abilities in a certain direction that I usually can't control efficiently without just resetting my combo or changing my strategy mid-fight to get said combo out, a la compensating what shouldn't be compensated.
also feels like a champion with a design kit of 3 things at once: he's meant to move like an assassin, fight like an ap bruiser, then burst/peel like an ap mage. It ultimately feels like his kit is designed to play multiple roles at once, all the while ignoring what he specifically can do as a champion. I guess it might have something to do with how affixed a lot of his ranges are, since manipulation of range is how he can deal his damage. At the same time, his affixation of range removes him from a majority of comps that he would otherwise be useful in. Granted, that's how he was designed, but it feels like he rather random to his identity then.
