What I think we can do to improve the community, if any possibility
TL;DR, Add Tribunal Back please, with Additions listed in Bold below and their basic explanations. Also make reports now ignore or decrease the chance someone will play with said person they reported, as that can reduce volatility with players altogether and not carry past experiences into play towards another game/ give time for bad behaviour to diminish (HOPEFULLY) and bring back in regular community/teamwork discussions.
I think we can agree that, in fact, a lot of games can end up being enflamed or heavily damaged just by people raging, BMing, or just outright trolling for their own pleasure. A lot of it tends to stem around the idea that it takes just one man to royally f*** a game because he/she decided it was a good idea to either troll, rage, or outright afk.
Yeah, analyzing this at the pro level, this doesn't happen enough or factors in as much, because players know how to, ya know, 'deal' with these kinds of things. But looking at the general spectrum, they're still having to mute, if not, ignore the said players which increases volatility from the get-go as is.
Now, personally, I say keep the current punishments we have, as they do get their point across... to an extent, to some people. But I seriously think we can do much more in this.
Re-Add Tribunal Back in, except add it in with new additions!
As straightforward as it says; picture this.
Say your good ol' Teemo decides it was a wonderful idea to stick top only and afk farm. In most cases, if he does good, then presto the team doesn't really do much as far as complaining because he actually got great objective control as a result. But the moment he/she loses her lane or loses that said pressure, its instantly be-railed to afk calls and lack of proper teamspeak, and more RAGE RAGE RAGE all over chat because he decided, from the get-go, to afk farm or just not communicate with the team.
Now lets say we had the old tribunal system, and had this case of Teemo going through this situation. Normally, the tribunal would act as a jury and rest alongside what evidence is presented for them to build upon the case. However, when analyzing what facts they have, what they could only see is the game chat itself (as that's all there is to show), alongside item builds, cs, and gold as well as game time. If the reports accuse of AFK, we really couldn't draw any conclusions as to the AFK nor really know how or why he did it in the first place. This is where addition one can really help:
MAP REGIONALITY (If that's a word...)
What I mean by this, is having the advanced game results equivalent of dots for the map, and the hueness/density counter of where teemo often moved. Practically, it would consist of a map, similar to Map1 indicated below (pardon the MSPaint job, WOOHOO WinXP FTW). Basically, adding a map that shows the density of movement for one champ, such as Teemo's movement, can help also show and aspect where and how teemo moved; if he was afk-farming as indicated by the game chat, then the density would show he was angled and flowed around top more often than his other movements were in the rest of the map. With this new info, players could then grab a greater synopsis over how the interaction stemmed, or how it was supported/denied. The idea of the map would be that, depending on movement of the player, the density would be more hued in for region that he/she moved most, implicating how often he/she roamed, teleported, or stuck in lane majority of the game.
Now, lets say that the map region was fluid, that teemo had roamed at points in the map to other lanes. What did he do?
Here's idea #2: Add in Areas where {player} did damage/minion kills!
In most cases when it comes to people going to afk, they often get to the point by having failed ganks, or just from pure rage that wrot his attitude (that can be covered simply in the next ideas down below). By having both timelines and areas where said Teemo did an impact would also grant the tribunal much more detail for possible reasons into it (as sometimes the reason itself can play into the actual situation at whole). This then gives much more analysis for tribunals to prevail an answer with much less of the grey area to arrive in the first place.
But, lets say that this team that Teemo was on made accusations because of what Teemo said prior to the game. THIS, my friends, was something that would've immensely benefitted Tribunal throughout its life:
POST AND PRE-GAME CHATS!
Dear god, this would've made tribunal much easier to handle back then so people wouldn't have to screen-cap the chats prior or after the game... Straight forward as it says, it would slam back in the idea that what you say does in-fact affect you and your overall punishment, and blah blah blah why wasn't this in there in the first place? :(
=============================================== Straight out there, even if Riot doesn't aim to bring back tribunal anytime soon, having this ideology for it would grant players who do use tribunal (should it hopefully ever come back) to have both a positive experience in Tribunal, and a greater array of methods to grab synopsis of whether the Teemo really did afk farm or not, or vice versa on other reports.
Another aspect riot could do to stem this community issue is just make reports also auto-ignore people. To be honest, if you're reporting someone, you're probably not gonna want to face them again in the future or until time has passed where that could make a difference to their attitude. Either make reports do ignores, or make it not queue w/ the same person you reported likely to happen on quick 'play agains'.
Now, I say this info, just because I sat down for the last few weeks playing League and having situations where in both my ranked play, and normals play, I've had more bad games due to rage and troll factors enduced by both sides of the game (whether it happen on one's statement or one's action) that actually negatively impacted the game, than I did playing games where the entirety of the game was friendly, if not, great to play with! This isn't to berate nor rip a new one on Riot Employees. Its just, when someone gets reported, having that pop-up come up for saying what they did is impractical, if not, ineffective now; people who get these reports often just click the ok and move along with their LoL lives and same attitudes, all because it doesn't stress nor bring to reality their situation as a whole. More people at this point ignore the message and move on much rather than change because a pop-up told them to cool it. And even with Riot doing the strict punishments now, that's still a glaring issue with the community in games anyway, as people aren't taking these punishments or warning at face value anymore, what with making new accounts now easy atop of a lack of a system, as it seems, for people to be IP Banned/IP Warned (seriously, do that and it gets the point across to them that yeah, they're still going to get into trouble if they do it on other accounts. Though, I can definitely see how that couldn't work, as that would then requiring making every single account an IP-specific account, and the techno-babble would derail it from working off the get-go. Would still benefit positive behavior to be the #1 concern for them... Big brother is watching :P)
I also say to bring back tribunal, just for this: I had fun doing tribunal much more than I did playing some league games! Having the experience of tribunal not only allowed me to conduct myself and get a rough understanding of how some issues arise in the first place, but being able to contribute to the game in another manner that doesn't require me to drain my wallet dry gets a better feeling across as I feel the effort I'm implacing through Tribunal actually holds an impact much more than my money does now, haha. Tribunal was, and always has been, a great time for me to break off serious time in League and just kick back and analyze what vulgarity can lead to. Having the ability to sit down and jury-duty cases for the better was well worth it, even if I wasn't getting IP for it in the first place (lets be honest, who actually got their IP from the system when it was done? lol). Not to mention, the Tribunal can also act as another ground of punishment for the bad behavior: if someone is gonna be more resilient on playing their games, then make it a punishment for them to jury duty the cases. To be admittable, this instantly references bias on the person who commited the similar punishment in the first place, but by making them see what their medicine brings to people, atop of restrict their time from vulgarity, then they're more likely to take the report or vulgarity more seriously than they would with a quickly handed-down decision by one Riot Employee; after all, which would impact you much more; your father telling you that you did something bad and you're getting punished for it, or having a posse/group telling you that what you did was bad and that their decisions can overall alter his outcome to a punishment (trying to word it so that it doesn't seem... cliche in bully standards. Hopefully the point gets across).
Storys short, Please bring back Tribunal. Many could benefit and enjoy it now for what and how match results have advanced in the last few years. Not to mention that Tribunal could even be coded as a separate app for players to hop on and make their judgements over decisions and issues presented via smartphone or tablet. Seriously, that thing would work; if anything, you would create the ultime procrastinator tool for people inside schools or classes. Or jobs, definitely jobs as well.
...Pretty Please, Riot?
