Laughing Fish - Holds grudges, abuses power, spiteful and immature.

I've become convinced that Laughing Fish constantly abuses his power by targeting specific players that he holds grudges against or by shutting down discussions that he disagrees with. I suspect he literally ghosts certain posters that he dislikes just so that he can pick on them.

Look at this example where Laughing Fish deleted my post and sent me a warning:

Your comment was deleted for harassment. If you dislike someone's comments, you are welcome to disagree with them or downvote them. However, please refrain from public harassment of any poster, no matter how unreasonable you think they are. Please note that repeated violations of this manner may result in disciplinary action against your account.

#I love AirKingNeo. He inspires me by showing how much further I could improve my downvote farming game.

If you have any questions about this moderation action, don't hesitate to reach out to the Boards Moderation Team via:

The Boards Moderation Discord The Let's Talk: Boards sub-board --Laughing Fish

I sincerely meant that I actually do like AirKingNeo because he does farm downvotes and doesn't seem to care. This guy says what he wants, knowing that his opinions are unpopular, and he doesn't get phased by the downvotes he attracts. I also like to play devil's advocate sometimes, so I can respect that. I don't think the boards should be an echo chamber, so I like the people who have the bravery to present opposing opinions. I don't necessarily agree with AirKingNeo's opinions, and I think he likely doesn't even sincerely mean everything he says. I really think he also likes to farm downvotes by being devil's advocate, and I respect that he keeps offering unpopular opinions despite getting negative feedback.

But along comes Laughing Fish, who still has a grudge from the last time that I pointed out how he subjectively and unfairly enforces rules to shut down discussions, and he accuses me of harassment here. He deleted my post, which was literally just what is in the quote above, and sent another warning even though he left many posts from other players that contained actual flaming and cursing on that thread. I understand that Laughing Fish is a popular guy, and I don't have a problem with him as a person (beyond his close-mindedness), but does he really have the maturity to separate his personal feelings and opinions to moderate objectively and fairly?

For context, his grudge against me began when he took offense to some posts of mine where I was arguing that "GG EZ" should not be punishable. My argument was that it was playful banter and that the community in general is hypersensitive and too easily offended. So yeah, fair enough he can disagree with me, and there was some gray area over some other material (specifically a reference to a "short bus") in my post being offensive. The issue was that he also over-zealously deleted every other person's posts who were arguing on the side of "GG EZ" not being punishment worthy, so he essentially shut down an entire side of a valid argument. I made a post on this board questioning Laughing Fish's ability to moderate, knowing that Laughing Fish would find the thread, because I wanted him to think about what he was doing. And that's what I am doing again here.

Laughing Fish, you're still being immature and letting your personal biases and grudges interfere with your judgment. You can't let your bias on a topic or your opinion of a person cause you to enforce rules subjectively. I know you take a lot of self worth from your boards persona, so you are probably personally hurt when people call you out to get you to reflect on your actions. But you can't choose to enforce rules more frequently or harshly on specific people just because of your vendettas. You need to understand what devil's advocate is and why it's a necessary for some people to fill that role in a community like the boards. You shouldn't be trying to enforce circle-jerk discussions that you personally agree with, while hounding specific people who have had run-ins with you...

It is interesting how many posters are convinced that they are so important to me that I hold a grudge against them. Well, allow me to put your fears to rest: I truly did not remember you. I had to look up your history.

As for your comment, it appeared to me that you were mocking AirKingNeo. You were agreeing with another comment that was mocking him when you posted your comment. Perhaps you did mean this in a positive way, but given the context that seems to be very unlikely. Especially since AirKingNeo was posting what appeared to be a serious comment (one that many just disagreed with). For that reason, I thought it best to remove the comment as the most obvious purpose of the comment was harassment. Neither I nor any other Warden can read your mind (yet), so I cannot know what you were thinking. I can only know what you actually typed, and what you actually typed came across as mocking.

It is worth pointing out that no action was taken against your account. You did not get banned, you did not get punished in any way, shape, or form. A comment was simply removed.

So, with regards to the one removed comment that you posted, I totally understand why that could be misinterpreted as harassment. This is why we have places (like this one) to come talk to us about actions that we take. As kind of an aside to the main conversation you are trying to have here, it would help a lot to clarify that on comments that could be ambiguous. It's sometimes legit hard to tell. Coming from someone else, that same message could definitely be harassment.

I can't promise anything about what will happen with this particular instance, but I can promise that we wardens take feedback seriously, and we do what we do to support everyone here. I'm not arguing that we're always perfect, but I don't see any wardens that we have that don't try to do their best.

I say that here, in particular, because I have worked with LF for 3 months now, and his only motive (as far as I can tell) is to keep the Boards useful and functional for everyone. I am not saying that to try to minimize your bad experience, but to encourage you to try to see it from the other side. I understand where you're coming from, but I don't think the best way to start a conversation like this one is to attack his motives.

People often have disagreements about how best to do a task. That's normal. It's hard to come to an agreement about how to proceed when everyone assumes the worst about each other's motives. Isn't that, in essence, what you are asking of LF? To not assume the worst about people because of past history? It would go a long way to legitimizing your argument here if you were willing to do the same.

edit: I really mean legitimizing the claim about the removal. Obviously, extending the courtesy of assuming pure motives negates the argument that his motives aren't pure :P (that got meta way too fast)

Next time, you should maybe make your intentions more clear in the actual words you type. Sarcasm and subtlety doesn't work well on the internet.

Ps. Please feed me downvotes. They reassure me of my stance. I know what I am getting into here. This is moderator circle-jerk central. I'd even get a better reception posting in the lair of the fish itself: Memes & Games.
