Moderators should be held to a single way of posting

They might use the same rules but their posts should follow the same kind of format as well. I really don't wanna read some bubbly bullshit when I am held back from discussion. I'd much rather a well written or at least decent explanation on why a discussion is closed. I'm fine with following the rules, just show the fault that was made, explain the rule that was broken, and don't use jinx stickers. This other mod states the problem but doesn't state the rule being broken and give example. I'm not going to argue with a mod on why they close a post, at least describe why. Off topic: I don't like some of them board rules. I really wanted to continue reading the discussion in the fish and continue discussing in the morde thread. I like seeing how the league community thinks and stuff.

Thanks for your feedback and I hope you've been enjoying your time on the rift if you've been on the rift. I would absolutely love for you to be all strict and brick face when moderating only my posts but I often doubt you'll have the chance too. Although I have never read the rules I feel that I rarely break them enough to warrant your super extra special service. They both tell exactly why the thread was locked. There's no reason the moderators can't put their own spin on their posts. Some will take a very direct and official tone, while others take a more personable approach. That's perfectly fine.

The thread got off topic, and was closed. It's exactly what the moderator stated. They try to urge people to read the Universal Rules before posting because when moderating, they use the assumption that you know about the rules to moderate it. In this case; ignorance is a really bad decision to choose. Reading the rules and following them per sub-board is important, and just because you did not read them, does not mean they are not ever-so present.

Though, your argument of a moderator having a more personable tone is a new perspective to me, I'm curious if anyone else feels the same way. Some try to mix personable and factual, some are factual, some just are laid back. I agree that ignorance around rules deserves no kind of leeway, but you shouldn't just leave people to be ignorant. I think moderators should always have at least these things in their posts if they are dealing with rule breaking.

In the bad example the moderator didn't really say anything except that the post was off topic. They didn't mention any rules at all.

I haven't seen them promoting reading the rules before posting though, usually it is the community itself and the posts that the community makes that get sticky'd to the top. Rules are shown on the bottom side.

Although it is the board users responsibility to not break rules, it is the moderators responsibility to fully describe how the rules work.

Also that argument on tones isn't really mine. I just agreed to being fine with personable tones because I think people misconceived my stance and were thinking I was against personable tones.

I usually keep my posts short because I assume everyone posting has a basic grasp of the Universal Rules, or knows where to find them if they're confused (as the link is always at the top of the left-hand navigation pane).

The second post you linked was on Memes & Games - the Board Etiquette (beneath the left-hand navigation pane) for Memes & Games further states "keep content focused on appropriate topics for these boards". Again, personal assumption on my part that these things are read and understood before posting.

I actually like it that they add a personal touch to their posts, it makes them feel like humans.

Thanks for your input. I have never read the rules at all, let alone the summoner code but I often know where to draw the line when it comes to assery and I feel is why I haven't been banned and all that. I'm having trouble articulating what I'm thinking...

I know this is a huge assumption but I don't think many people have read the board rules, yet alone the guide lines on the side. I know I haven't until you mentioned it and I have been a boards user for I think 5-6 years now. I think it would be nice if moderators did things like you. I am not against adding a personal touch but if the entire comment is just "ayy this is way off topic" I'm not feeling that. I won't argue because I trust you guys know what rules we're breaking but I do feel like arguing if that's the kind of comment I'm gonna get in response to a thread being shut down.

I think the standard should be a least to label the guide lines and rules that were broken. I also think the post you made when closing that other thread was well written, I only downvoted cause salt.

Can confirm, the boards rules I know I've learned by word-of-mouth or seeing mods close posts for said rules.

I also self moderate for the most part, but I also don't tolerate dickery. If I run across people being sucky I challenge them on it.

In fairness, one of these is a more lighthearted situation (this thread is way off topic), and the other is more serious (this thread is not appropriate for the boards). Seems appropriate to me.

Also, they're different people. They have different styles. As long as their rulings are both consistent with the rules, I don't see a problem whatsoever.

Mhm, I feel the moderators should label out clearly on what rules were broken though. If staying on topic is a rule they should say something along the lines of "we try to keep posts on topic, this post has gone off topic so we are going to shut it down:. I am also fine with different people and different writing styles. If Mod RookDio wrote it like this

Everyone else already said pretty much everything that needs to be said, but let me chime in with a little personal experience some others might not have.

I joined the Riot volunteers years ago as a Wrenchman in Help & Support. When posting there, I kept a super professional attitude, addressing everyone by name, being super cheery, all that stuff. When I switched over to being an Arbiter, it was made abundantly clear that the type of attitude I brought over from my days as a Wrenchman was completely unacceptable. People didn't like the super professional, cheery attitude my posts had and made it clear that I should change and have an attitude comparable to that of what most would consider a "regular person."

What that means to people will differ based on the person. I imagine at some point, a few of the moderators may have received similar feedback. At the end of the day, we're all human and we all have our own ways to approach things. I value your feedback as much as anyone else, so thank you for taking the time to create a thread about this topic.

Lol I really don't care, it's easy to avoid dickery and get to the main point of someones post and discuss. I wish I could've continued discussing though. I had a few more arguments I wanted to test out, but never again I guess.
