Thoughts on Quinn?

I'm curious to hear what people think of Quinn. I've played Quinn for a decently long time and I have my own ideas about her role. There seems to be a big divide in how people see Quinn, both in balance and niche.**

Some like her as a standard ADC, others will claim she's more like Jayce or Teemo (not going to mention Urgot because he's going through an identity crisis too.) I've seen her played Top, mid, jungle and ADC. It's also hilarious to watch pros build her, because unlike most champs even pros have wildly different ideas about how she should be built, even in the same role!

There's also the issue of balance, and it seems to have a lot to do with how she's built and who's she's facing. People who I know mainly play melee champs usually see her as much stronger pick than those that play ranged, even if they're not directly laning against Quinn. I've also seen quite a divide on balance, with most saying she's balance, a large group saying she's bad and a small group saying she's really good or OP.

Give me some of your own ideas for how you feel she fits into the game. It'd be helpful if you gave some information about yourself as well, as that could give a clearer picture (maybe people that play Quinn have wildly different ideas from those who only play against her, who knows.)

There's my thoughts on Quinn. It's a long read, more of an article rather than post, but I don't know how to make a tl,dr for it. :/

Regarding who I am... Gold top main. No particular main top champs, but I main Quinn and Alistar and take them everywhere.

Honestly?

She has just received some tweaks. If her clunky AA animation was to be fixed and if top lane meta was to shift towards ranged champions, she would immiediately become broken.

That's the problem with her. As soon as meta starts favoring double adc comps, she is going to be OP. Maybe its the blind that makes her kit toxic?

I've posted a few things on Quinn in the old champion discussion forums. With an equally farmed 0/0/0 Quinn and 0/0/0 insert marksmen here, Quinn tends to output less overall damage than others throughout most stages of the game. When played as an anti-bruiser top laner she can excel, but in many ways is "toxic" in her ability to zone & disengage at will. If Riot ever does intend to change a part of her kit, I'd hope they would find some means to lessen the opportunity cost top/mid Quinn creates for a team who picks her by upping her kit damage potential and/or survivability, while simultaneously giving a heap load of champs breathing room toplane.

In context of the recent Lucian changes, I'd think Quinn needs her identity to be more solidified. While new Lucian is poised to be a king of adc blinking, I think Quinn should be a queen of map pressure and dueling. Valor does a great job of that at the moment, but I think Quinn herself needs some updates in that aspect. One change I've hoped Riot is tested her for is her passive W as Quinn. Currently its:

Passive: Attacking a Vulnerable target will grant Quinn bonus attack speed and flat movement speed for 3 seconds. ATTACK SPEED per rank: 20 / 25 / 30 / 35 / 40% MOVEMENT SPEED per rank: 20 / 30 / 40 / 50 / 60

A change I've been thinking of is:

Passive: Quinn receives passive AS and MS. Attacking a Vulnerable target will grant Quinn double this bonus for 3 seconds. ATTACK SPEED per rank: 4%/ 8% / 12%/ 16%/ 20% MOVEMENT SPEED per rank: 3%/ 4%/5% / 6%/7%

First thing to note about my idea is that upon hitting a marked target (assumed you just e'd off a bruiser top lane) - you are getting much less return fire and kite/chase potential than on live. This is a slight nerf to her trading/punishing power top lane. However, giving her passive AS and MS means she is less reliant on hitting marked targets, making her team fight better since she doesn't have to use her E in order to punish a specific target. Next thing is that the passive MS & AS means Quinn's overall map pressure is boosted since she'll be able to do more damage to towers without enemy minions present and get to points on the map faster without burning her ult.

Much of Quinns kit points to being an adc who fits into the greater strategy through map pressure. I think Riot should change certain parts of her kit to make her more adept at such.

Quinn is my main ADC choice. I really love her hit and run still of play as well as her built in elusiveness. Though its a bold statement she can 1v1 any carry late game and come out on top with her ult. Her burst is insane and her roaming potential is unparalleled amongst marksmen. Due to her Vault's range she can reliably engage on carries with greater ranges without risking poke getting into position. She is a safe split pusher too. In my honesty opinion I believe he to be in a very solid spot and does something that few other champs do - add to the diversity of the champion pool. The fact that people don't know where to place her/is a testimonial to her mold breaking kit. I've seen her played to great effect top as well as bot - heck I've even seen her in the jungle. Quinn has a stigma of being "bad" but a closer look shows just the opposite - she's just a VERY different type of carry with ways to contribute other than DPS.

I build her with...item 3158 item 3153 item 3142 item 3031 item 3035 item 3046 ...

The build suits my preference for assassination and reliable DPS

item 3072 item 3087 item 3078 ... are good options for more burst oriented builds!

I love Quinn, she's one of my favorite champions. I would be lying if I said I wasn't drawn to her because of her status as an "underdog". She is pretty effective and is a champion that I always recommend for my friends to try out - their often surprised after playing her. While they don't rave about her possible status as a "hidden OP" champion most point out that "she is effective at what she does, and she plays different from other carries."
