are they supposed to be bent? or is it just some sort of are mistake? just for clarity purposes.

seems like the angle to me.. i mean it kinda overall looks like a wide U shape as if them being straight, like one would like to think, is not intended at all
Those arent strings... Strings would require tension to create notes, those arent clamped at the ends meaning no tension.
My guess is that those are metal bars kinds like a xylophone that you would strike with a mallet to produce a tone.
