Shaco's Box's (W) Don't Trigger Passive Tribute

If you play AP support Shaco and buy Spellthief's Edge and an enemy takes damage from your Jack in the Box you do not get gold from it so it doesn't trigger the Tribute Passive.

Tribute says it is activated by Spells and Basic Attacks. So it doesn't require the spell to use on hit effects. For example Morgana's Tormented Soil will trigger Tribute multiple times if an enemy champion stands in it and Tormented Soil doesn't trigger on hit effects.
