Maokai bug with his E

Anyone else notice that the targeting for maos E is aweful. In lane or jung if mao kills the minion the E initially targeted then the sapling will run to last location minion was at and explode where it died instead of re-targeting to a live minion. Any clue why this has not been addressed even through a rework?
