[CLIENT] Spectator mode not working after 4.21

Since the last patch, almost every game I tried to spectate (via friends or featured matches) just fail to load and end up with an error report : "Unable to download spectator data. The game will now exit." or "Connection to spectator server failed. The game will now exit." As for the few times where it did load, the game would just freeze.

Anyone else is having this problem?

Edit : This is still not fixed as of Patch 5.2

Edit 2 : As of february 2th, this issue seems to be fixed for me. Seems it's not the case for everyone tough.

Edit 3 : Many people are still having this issue in patch 5.3

Well, it seems this bug was not fixed in patch 5.1

I wish someone from Riot could tell us that they at least know there is a problem...this is getting annoying.

Does not work after patch 5.3.

I have uninstalled and re-installed the game but to no avail. I just get a black screen and a busy cursor, and I have to open my task manager to see the client is not responding, then I end the process. The client pops back up stating I just left a game and gives me a reconnect option, but when I do the process starts all over again.

This issue is not fixed.... Still. Just to be clear. I have been having trouble all day. Just keep getting black screen and an error that I can't connect to Spectator Server. This is incredibly frustrating. Been almost 3 weeks since we had an update on this issue. Could we get another please Riot when you have a moment. I'm sure there's other bugs on the list but this one is important too.

I had this same issue since 4.21 but as of today it seems to be fixed without me doing anything on my end. Spectated 2 games so far without errors.

Riot plz it didn't fix in the 5.3 patch note. i wish someone from riot could fix it ASAP

Also, it seems that when i bypassed my router and plugged my PC directly into my modem, it connected just fine... so for anyone that has that option, thats pretty much the only fix i found for a temporary solution

Spectator mode still does not work for me after brief patch Feb 2.

Screen would be completely black, with only a visible cursor. Can't tab out of this... After a few minutes the loading screen pops up and not long after that, an error report: "Connection to spectator server failed. The game will now exit."

I've been having the same problem. I attempted to spectate the same person several times over the past two hours but no to avail. Either it freezes during team builder, reports I've been kicked from spectator server at this time with "Connection to spectator server failed. The game will now exit.", or it will "succeed" and my friend reports he sees me spectating, while all I see is blackscreen.

mine hasn't work for a while now... and still won't work even after patch 5.2... PLZ RITO DO SOMETHING D: re-downloading league doesn't help... Amumu

Wanted to pile in here and mention that spectate is not working for me either, same error messages as OP. Running Windows 7 on a Sony laptop. Tried doing a full uninstall, but it did not fix the problem.

Hope this gets fixed soon or a solution is found.

Same here. I used to the get the error messages about "spectator data not loaded" and so on. But, now, I just get this blank, black screen and nothing happens. Sometimes I get an error, sometimes I don't. I Almost always have to bring up task mgr and kill the task just to resume the normal league client. Riot probably has a lot on its plate, but, it has been over 6 months now, since this issue started. I think it is about time we get some kind of resolution.

I have the same problem...tried some router and firewall things but when i port forwarded didnt let me get in luncher at all...please fix this bug,i think this is the first time when i wanted so much to look at someone and can't spectate because of this bug.

I'm having this issue too, it's really annoying...strange thing is that it was working before in other months when people had already started an issue about this but now it's completely not working.

Adding in another post just to give some more details. I have league allowed through my firewall all ports forwarded. Tried a full repair even went so far as doing a full reinstall of the game and its still giving me this error. The fact that it has so obviously been months and months since this problem started and riot still doesn't care to do anything. This is an important feature to many players even more so towards those of us that are wanting to spectate our own games via any of the several ways to do so or those trying to spectate our friends to give them advice.

Mine still hasn't worked since November, I don't know what to do, I have 2 computers and on both of them the issue persists, so I know is not the client since multiple instances cannot have the issue, in fact it takes me to the loading screen, everybody loads to 100% but game never starts and says "connection to spectator server failed the game will now exit". I wish I would get a resolution for this.

+1 for having the issue. Trying to spectate a friend's ranked match.

A couple months ago I was able to spectate the featured ranked matches and normals. Haven't tried a normal yet. My friends who live in the area I do are able to spectate just fine.

5.3 patch, still can't spectate. I think the last time I was able to spectate a game was around Thanksgiving. Its a feature I really enjoy, so I'd like to see it fixed soon. I've uninstalled and re-installed multiple times, I've fixed the client multiple times.

Its so frustrating riot. I love spectating matches, but this bug completely eliminates spectator mode as an option. You mind as well not have it on the dashboard. Everyday its like is it going to work. Plz i beg you guys try to fix this problem.....

It is happening to me also. i had the same problem a few patches back, when everyone was having problems. Now it just seems to be me and none of my friends are having issues.

Ive been having this same problem since i came back to lol 2 wks ago. Tried every possible fix i could find and always crash or error. Maybe riot is working on a secret fix for pbe to test lol

I am wanting to spectate a couple of friends games right now, and it won't let me. It has been doing this ever since the 4.21 patch, as you said. I don't know why this patch is the must buggiest, but my hopes is that it gets fixed as soon as possible. I want to be able to have fun in league with out having a hard time getting it to run.

Mine is doing this too... I have to end the program with the task manager or it sits there at a black screen for a long time. My store's broken about 90% of the time, too. Maybe it's time to do a reinstall, idk.

I see this is still happening, and it's been happening ever since the last patch. I tried everything, even re-downloading the patching client, and it still has the same result. If there's not gonna be an immediate fix to this problem, then I can at least hope that they are aware of this issue and are planning on fixing it with the next patch. Until then, guess I'll have to bear with it and wait patiently for the issue to be resolved...
