Keyboard commands/spells not working upon entering game

It's been out there since at least 2013. When this is going to be fixed? After you release 5 more champions? At least offer a better way to mitigate the exp difference or soft reset the game.

Don't pull that cheeky copy/paste, I know how these boards work. But it is completely random. Circumstances have never changed; I don't open up random programs in the background before loading or tamper with League's program files. It is literally the same routine: start game, sit and wait. Lo and behold once a month, this happens.

What do you mean "keyboard commands/spells not working upon entering a game."? I need some details, because this problem is very generic.

More specific questions:

  • Are you saying nothing happens when you use your hotkeys in-game?
  • Are you saying this happens the entire duration of the game or randomly or once?
  • Are you referring to the 'qwer' commands? Or specific action commands, like attack-move-click?
  • Are you literally saying this happens once a month or it happens sometimes.
  • Is there a time-frame when you see a frequency of keyboard input not functioning throughout the game?
  • Are you running any programs/services in the background while playing league?
  • Are you running any programs/services that use keybindings or record keyboard input?

Exactly: nothing happens. Attack-move click nor spells using QWER would have any effect whatsoever. Once a month is my general estimate, maybe slightly less often. My commands don't register the instant the game loads up, I'm guessing the client doesn't always properly transition my keyboard with game functions after champ select is completed. My only fix is to completely restart LoL (closing the game and hitting that option to reconnect doesn't fix the problem.)

As I said, I do nothing out of the ordinary playing league, and I do not use any keybinding software or any programs that would interfere with the game. Nothing but my Facebook on homepage, Skype, antivirus and antimalware, and LoL.

Are you having any latency issues while this happens?

Make sure you do not have any programs running that can cause hotkey conflicts. Do you have sticky keys enabled? If so, you should disable it.

Are you running any mouse software, such as Razor Synapse?

Third-Party Software Related Solution

Unfortunately, even though there are many gaming peripherals that are used to play League of Legends, we have no control over the development of the software that comes with them. If you experience an in-game issue with a custom keyboard or mouse and are running 3rd party software that controls them, we recommend uninstalling that software and checking if the issues still persist. For any other queries about 3rd party gaming software configurations, you will need to contact the device's manufacturer for support. Below are links to support sites of some major manufacturers:

Solution #1

Try running your LoLClient as administrator.

  1. Right click your LoL.exe.
  2. In the list, click 'properties'.
  3. Click the shortcut tab.
  4. Click the 'Advanced...' button.
  5. Check the box that says 'Run as Administrator'.

Solution #2

You can try running your league client in compatibility mode.

  1. Right click your LoL.exe.
  2. In the list, click 'properties'.
  3. Click the compatibility tab.
  4. In the 'Compatibility section' check the box that says 'Run this program in compatibility mode for:'.
  5. Select the operating system you use currently.

Solution #3

Steps for resetting your configuration file:

  1. Enter a custom game
  2. Once you've loaded into the game, tab out of the game and open your configurations folder. If you installed to the default location, check C:\Riot Games\League of Legends\Config
  3. Inside this folder, delete "input.ini" if it exists
  4. Open "persistedSettings.json", press Ctrl+F, and look for "input.ini"

You should see a curly brace { on the line above the one containing "input.ini". Scroll down to find the closing brace } spaced as far from the edge as the first brace. Delete everything between these braces. As an example (yours will include more text than this):

{ "name": "Input.ini", "Sections": [ "name": "GameEvents", . . . }

Finally, save your changes, tab back into League of Legends, exit the game, and restart. Once you load into a new game, all your settings should be back to their defaults.

go into your device manager and delete all the USB controllers. make sure you have your keyboard and mouse installed in 2 separate USB controllers.

If you have a PS/2 mouse or keyboard I would recommend plugging that in for when the USB eventually dies.

After you have deleted all the USB controllers you can either reboot your computer or if you still have a working keyboard or mouse you can go to the top of hte device manager and select scan for changes. whole process can take about 10 minutes from start to finish.
