Twisted Fate W

I was playing Akali and I saw Twisted Fate had his stun card at all times. If he did use his W ability though, the gold card would stay while you would be able to see he was choosing the other cards, but it would always lock in as the gold card, even if he used the red card or something. Is this a glitch because it didn't last long (maybe like a minute)?
