Riot your new client is broken

I just started a ranked game and literally am in one right now but I can't go into the game because it keeps saying that the server version is different than the client version. I'm using the new client. I start up the old one and guess what it needs to update! I didn't realize until now but it should've updated before should it have not? Now I'm going to lose my first placement game of season 7 because Riot can't make their new client work right. Not to mention that I don't get messages saying I've been gifted the new Nasus skin or I've achieved mastery level 7 on Nasus (which both happened but didn't show up until I logged onto the legacy client).
