Challenging smite

I was on the PBE and playing vs a shaco, when I hit him with Challenging smite, he would just use Q and disappear.

Challenging smite states that for the duration, I get vision on the marked enemy. I got no vision of him at all, even if he ran into a bush. I am positive the ability landed. In case it matters, I was playing as Shen.
