Things like Q cancel

Alright so here I am honestly seeking some legitimate advice. You'd think I'd have all of this stuff worked out after years of playing the game(nearly five)but, I don't. I enjoyed playing characters like Riven and recently learned about her Q cancel. I mean recently...as in minutes before I'm writing this. Inevitably my team got angry at me for not knowing how to do it, we were all upset by that point and our jungle happened to notice my failings, and proceeded to criticize me in rather unhelpful ways.

So my question is what other mechanics like this exist, where can I learn how to do them and do they make THAT much of a difference? It seems like to me that constantly having to aa-q-m-aa-q-m is less efficient than just qing someone to death. On that note can someone explain why everyone is so scared of Morde after the changes? Do these types of mechanics have anything to do with it because frankly I think he's junk now and am sick of seeing Garen getting god-like in all of my games because no one will ban him as they're more scared of Morde among others.

Any help is welcome since the in game teams would rather berate you(we're all guilty of it I'm sure)than actually help you. Thank you in advance. summoner 31

Well, that's the thing. Riven is kind of the exception, not the rule. There's basic animation cancelling which I'm sure you know about, auto reset, etc., but that specific mechanic is rather specific to Riven, and there aren't really that many things beside that which are equitable. On Riven though, once you get good with it, it does make a huge difference. The amount of damage you are able to output increases by a rather significant margin. Never underestimate the power of sneaking auto attacks into your combos.

As far as morde goes, I don't know honestly. I'm a jungle main, so I don't get to see a lot of what he's like bot lane at the moment.

Right got it so its basically privy to just Riven. I do know about standard animation cancels, didn't really realize this particular 'combo' could add so much extra. Been watching a few videos on it lately, of those I actually found.
