How do you play Nautilus?

Picked him up a while ago but never got to learn how to play him. Now that there's a tank jungler meta, I thought it'd be a good time to learn how. Any tips?

so.. your shield last 10 seconds or until it breaks well jungle creeps tend to break it in about 2 seconds -_- instead you activate your shield like 5 seconds ahead of time while walking over to the jungle camp this is cuz shield CD starts ON CAST and not after it breaks

Dont build him AP unless ur just having fun. Frost smite/trailblazer if u struggle in jungle, cinderhulk, merc/mobi, banshees, randuins is gonna be your core.

Max shield then slow then toss.

Ult with these priorities in mind:

  1. Are they hyper carrying (ie: 10/1)
  2. Is a carry right next to you or behind their whole team (behind their whole team is the better pick)
  3. Are they alone
  4. Will it allow a kill/pick

Got to D1 last season, i pref him supp but jungle is really good as well. Your goal will vary as will your build based on ur team comp. Some cases u may need to peel some u may need to initiate. That parts on you to figure out.

EDIT: start gromp -> blue -> red -> gank/raptors/back (basic jungle path)

Get good at using the anchor to close gaps - even if you can't hook a champ, hook terrain to get you closer. It's also a great escape tool.
Don't fall into the Armor trap - HP does way more for than armor. Only build thorn mail if their enemy team has two AD main damage dealers or their ADC is super fed.

I personally love building attack speed as one of my items as getting the reset on the passive is wonderful. No one escapes you.

Start W, then E, then Q. Max W first.

Items are pretty standard tank.

Ganks: if you can walk in, do it. If they're getting away, use Q. Basic skill combo: Land Q, autoattack, immediately activate W for auto reset, auto, E. R can either be used as an iniatiation tool or an anti-escape measure, I recommend using it at the very beginning or the very end of your combo.

I know you are asking this from a jungler's perspective (I can't jungle to save my life), but I would highly advise using him in middle, or even support. Build tons of ap, with some hp (Rush RoA no matter what, and Rylai is great too) and watch the enemies melt away in seconds. People don't realize that his shield gives him splash poison on auto attacks, that scales amazingly with ap. You have all the cc so they cant escape and the waveclear is absurd. It's super fun, trust me! :D

Play him as a support bot lane. His level 1 engage is silly and he scales pretty well for a support. Point and click CC to take out enemy ADCs in teamfights is huge and it can even hit multiple people.

I start on blue buff with W at level 1. Take E 2nd and Q 3rd. I preferred to max both W & E one by one, since you gotta take advantage of both the low cooldown on his E & bigger defence on his W.
