If you want to play it safe, start with crystalline flask and health potions. How you should play the match-up depends on what champion you're playing against the ADC. If you have a gap closer, usually you only want to trade with the adc when you have your gap closer. In general, you're probably lose alot of cs but the most important thing is that you stay in lane and soak up the experience from the dying minions. If they're playing super aggressive, just let the minion wave push up to your turret so u can safely farm. Try asking your jungler to gank your lane as adc top laners are very squishy and easy targets to kill.
depends on your champ I play draft pick so I can see their champ and plan accordingly its not within every champions capabilities to survive.. lets be honest
There's really only one ADC that goes top with any success, and that's Quinn. She has the 5th highest base HP of all ADCs, highest HP growth of all ADCs and tied with Jax, and surprisingly the highest base attack speed of all ADCs. Her passive is basically a stronger crit in lane. She has an escape, vision, blind and a huge AS/MS steroid.
The way you beat Quinn is with waveclear and untargettable gapclosers. Master Yi top (despite being an autoattack melee) and Maokai top wreck her due to having both. She can't clear waves very well before Shiv, so abuse it. If you cannot, then you will lose because she will freeze the lane, zone you from farm, poke you to half then wreck you at 6. If you do not have untargettable gapclosers, she can E to interrupt your gapcloser, hit you with empowered auto which hurts like hell, and then chase you while your gapcloser is on CD, chunking you for half HP or more. Then she'll wreck you at 6.
If you have any hard engage, you can trick many ADCs into a terrible fight.
See, every time you auto attack somebody, all nearby minions switch their aggro onto you. On the flip side of things, since ADCs rely so heavily on their auto attacks to harm their targets, they will almost always attract minion aggro if they overextend.
The trick is to follow their plan of attack. Draw an imaginary line between your minions and theirs. Every time they pass that line and auto attack you, engage on them immediately. Done correctly, you can force them to not only tank your minions, but also trap them for an extended amount of time due to how many bruisers' kits function. Not to mention, Bruisers are straight up stronger in raw stats, so a well timed engage can easily kill an ADC that tries to harass you.
It depends so much on which champ you are using. Riven and Irelia have gap closers they can use to jump on the ADC and once they get close they can usually win. Darius has his grab. Garen can usually tank the damage and charge. If he gets his silence in most ADCs are easily smashed. Even Renekton has a gap closing attack.
And those are the champs I can think of quickly.
The key is to avoid allowing the ADC to just poke you constantly and get you distracted from farming. You have more power than him if you force an all-in, but he wants to poke you and keep you from farming.
If you can get an early gank from your jungler. An ADC alone is a big target and if you get ahead that ADC will be easy to bully out of the lane.
Ask jungler to camp your lane. Generally ADCs are babies or else they don't need a support to clean their diapers. When they overextend ask your jungler to come, since ADCs generally don't have great escapes or gapclosers. Like they HAVE one, but not as great. Play safe and passive.
I've played top ranged once or twice against a tank and pretty much I would say the strategy is to keep harassing them out of lane and hopefully zone them. In the beginning, most adc champions play safe because they know they're squishy and don't have the health advantage of some top laners so they rely on distance. Getting in their face, yeah, you'll start getting results.
Like a few guys said, certain champs have great hard engages, and are able to close gaps easily. Time your engage so that they take a lot of minion aggro, which does damage early levels. Don't be foolish and dive them into turret, but make sure you hurt them enough that they play safe until jungler ganks or go back.
well u can play any champ anywhere and I prove that all the time by playing
as a top main or as APC (adc) even Jungle
works wonders with the new system for smite oddly enough (went 15/1 first time trying jungle
) he even makes a wonderful support champ so instead of just following the meta of a standard melee champ top lane try new things and if they do go as a adc on top lane when your playing melee swap lanes with someone on team instead of just feeding
