Not sure how credible the people telling you jungle maokai wasn't good, but there was a time when he was very bad. Maybe 8 months ago. Now he's a strong pick in any role except ADC. He still can't ADC. Top and Jungle are his best roles. I like him best at jungle though. And ADC is quite boring. You will be the major damage output on your team that's for sure but early game you're so weak that they specifically have a role designated to covering up that weakness. So I understand the feeling. Playing Kog'maw is quite boring. One of the duller ones to play as. Lacks hard CC, has an underwhelming (but spammable) ultimate and his passive is almost non-existent due to all of the high mobility champions roaming the rift nowadays. But with the dawn of the tank meta his ability to shred through tanks is desirable, but due to his lack of mobility he needs a very specific team built around disengagements. Janna, Alistar, Xin Zhao, Orianna, Jayce, Jarvan and anyone with a peel goes well with him. Without those peels Kog'maw is pretty lack luster. He is one of the few champions who can match Caitlyn's range early game (Tristana gets outranged early game) and scales better into late game than Caitlyn. His ultimate gives vision so that counters Twitch and somewhat counters Vayne. Sivir struggle against Kog'maw outside the laning phase. Kog'maw's vomit trail can nullify a Sivir ultimate but Sivir's spell shield can shield her from one use of Kog'maw's ult shots so that will just make Kog'maw use a bit more mana to kill her. He is good for the tank meta, but as far as the most frequent ADCs being used (Caitlyn, Kalista, Jinx & Graves) he's subpar. Caitlyn is easiest ADC to do well with. Falls off late game but early game is one of the strongest. That's why I recommend her.
