Well, you wanna start off building some armor pen and stacking Tear of the Goddess. Basically, start longsword 3 pots (2 red 1 blue), rush tear of the goddess, build brutalizer into Black Cleaver or Yomuu's, finish Manamune/Muramana, then go full tank. Generally speaking, Frozen Heart, Banshee's, Randuins, and some other nice little defense item. Boots go for Ionian, need that 40% CDR. You can also start flask depending on matchup.

Urgot can muster up success in any lane minus jungle but the easiest spot to learn him is in top lane, start the game super aggressive, look for 1v1's as long as you're not behind. Your ult gives you massive defensive steroids on use, and your passive reduces the damage dealt by enemy champions by 15% for 2 seconds when you Q or AA them, this gives you MASSIVE dueling potential against everything from Shyvana to Zed.

You're feast or famine though, Urgot does no damage if he falls behind, if this happens just start building tank immediately and don't finish muramana until tear already has full stacks. If you go even in lane or ahead, finish your damage THEN build tank.

Play style wise, again, start off aggressive, be a carry, push the lane, roam to mid, get kills, get dosh, get tanky, stop being a carry and start siegeing objectives.

Against a team full of tanks? Black Cleaver always. Against a team full of squishies? Yomuu's and if you want, replace a defensive item with Last Whisper.

Final build, I would recommend item 3158 item 3043 item 3071 item 3110 item 3102 item 3143 or item 3512 (helps your sieging, 50 MR AND Armor)

Hey man, I thought I'd give you my two cents.

I recently started playing Urgot and I think I have some good beginner's context for you. I would recommend you play a handful of computer bot games just to get a feel for his mechanics and last-hitting because his kit feels fairly clunky relative to other champions. After you play a few bot games, you will get in a groove last-hitting, harassing and managing your mana.

  • Urgot has conditional tankiness so you need to dictate trades based on your ability to use your W and apply your passive and R.
  • Urgot's lane harrass combination relies on landing his E. You will notice it's nigh impossible to land unless the enemy is CC'd in some way because of a slow cast time, slow projectile speed and telegraphed animation. Additionally, missing your E punishes you greatly due to the long cooldown and high mana cost. PROTECT YOUR E, do not use it frivolously.
  • In order to land your E, you need to pop your W just before the projectile from your AA or Q lands on the enemy. The W slow applies on-hit, so you don't need it up during your cast. Popping your shield before your engagement telegraphs your intentions to your opponent and allows them to destroy your shield or wait it out.
  • I recommend starting with a Crystalline Flask almost every time, you really need the sustain.
  • In order to stay relevant late game, you need to prioritize armor penetration. Urgot's damage & utility doesn't fall off if he builds Armor Pen quints and marks, does 21 points in the offensive mastery tree and builds The Black Cleaver at some point. Ghostblade and Last Whisper are also viable options.
  • I would recommend using Flash and Ghost summoner spells. Due to Urgot's low mobility in a high mobility meta, you really need that extra speed to reposition yourself on the battle field. He doesn't really need the extra kill potential with Ignite because his range is ludicrous and he can do without heal, barrier or exhaust because of his own tankiness.
  • Remember, you are an anti-carry. You bring armor reduction, damage reduction, slows, long ranged poke and phenomenal peel and re-engagement options to your team. During a teamfight or skirmish, focus your attention on your carries and the enemy's engagement. As an anti-carry, it's your job to protect your carries. Use your ultimate to peel anyone that dives your carry and then apply your passive and armor shred to as many people as you can while poking their squishies with your Q. Think of your ultimate as insurance for you and your team. Did Warwick just dive your ADC? Pop that ult. Do you need just a little bit more tankiness to win the skirmish? Pop that ult. Did someone hop a wall and is about to get away? Pop that ult. Did Katarina just all-in on your team? Pop that ult.
  • While many will tell you Urgot is a huge lane bully and you should start the game aggressive, that is not entirely true. Urgot is able to exert lane dominance over squishy targets, but mobile & tanky champions or champions with built-in sustain will easily overpower you if you are reckless. This meta has a lot of champions like Gnar, Swain, Jax, Garen and Wukong going top. Trust me, if you do not respect their power, you will feed hard. Playing Urgot can feel a little like trying to balance on a tight rope because he doesn't have the mobility available to so many other champions.
