Patch 5.13 - The Rise of Soraka
Hello everyone, UberNat here, a humble Silver 3 person who loves League of Legends and doing math. With recent changes to Spirit Visage in patch 5.13 in addition to the changes to Ancient Coin items in patch 5.10, Soraka is now in a very strong position.
I am sure we all know of Soraka's strong healing abilities and the frustration of playing vs her in Summoner's Rift. The recent changes to Spirit Visage change the +20% self healing to +20% all healing which means if there is a Soraka on your team and you build Spirit Visage, she will heal you for 20% more. The changes to Nomad's Medallion also gives you 10 health per enemy minion death as opposed to 5 health
And now for some math. For this set we will assume she has at least 9 points in defense taking 2 points in Recovery. We will also assume she is not running any Health Regen runes.
Assume we have 0 AP for all the math

Soraka Level 1 health regen: 4.5 ( 2.5 base )

Soraka starts Ancient Coin, giving her +5 health per enemy minion death

Soraka level 1 health ~ 580

A rank one Heal will heal an ally for 120 and cost Soraka ~58 (10% max health ) health at level 1

Since a minion wave spawns every 30 seconds and every 4th minion wave is a canon wave, Soraka will heal 4.5 ( regen per 5 ) * 6 ( amount of 5s per 30 ) + 6 ( minions in wave ) * 5 ( health per minion death ) = 57 Health per 30 seconds, nearly completely covering the cost of one W. If you go further into defensive mastery tree, you will gain even more health regen at the cost of gold growth and expeirence.

In addition to this, for each enemy champion hit by the center of her Starcall, it will heal her 25 health.
Now let's assume you are level 5 and have purchased a Nomad's Medallion.

Soraka level 5 health regen: 6.0 ( 4.0 base )

Nomad's Medallion grants + 10 health per enemy minion death

Soraka level 5 health ~ 830

A rank 3 heal will heal an ally for 180 and cost ~ 83 health ( 10% max health ) at level 5

Since a minion wave spawns every 30 seconds and every 4th minion wave is a canon wave, Soraka will heal 6.0 ( regen per 5 ) * 6 ( amount of 5s per 30 ) + 6 ( amount of minions per wave ) * 10 ( health per minion death ) = 96 Health per 30 seconds, completely covering the cost of a heal on an ally.

In addition to this, for each enemy champion hit by the center of her Starcall, it will heal her 45 health.
> What does this mean?
This means that Soraka can heal an ally with out losing any health once every 30 seconds. With potions, she can heal an ally much more. Her Starcall will also be a tool for healing her. This means she can easily mitigate poke in lane and create favorable trades by sustaining afterwards.
Now let's assume Soraka has Health regen Yellows and Quints, my personal favorite on her

Soraka level 1 health regen: 17.5 ( 13.0 runes, 2.0 mastery, 4.5 base )

Soraka will heal 17.5 * 6 + 5 * 6 = 135 Health per 30 seconds, enough for nearly 3 heals at rank 1, and no one should have to heal someone 3 times at level one either.

Soraka Level 5 health regen: 19 ( 13.0 runes, 2.0 mastery, 4.0 base )

Soraka will heal 19 * 6 + 10 * 6 = 174 Health regen per 30 seconds, enough for 2 full rank 3 heals. You can heal much more with Q landing in lane as well.
Now let's assume an ally has a Spirit Visage and you use your ultimate.

Level one Wish will heal 180 instead of 150

Level two Wish will heal 300 instead of 250

Level three Wish will heal 420 instead of 250.

Wish is healing 55% of you total AP in addition

TL;DR: Soraka is stronger thanks to changes in 5.10 and 5.13 effecting her Heal efficiency. Expect to see her in competitive play. She is already flooding Challenger and Master games. She is a worthy support to learn in this meta
bring a bit off health on the table, but not enough to buy resistance until very late game. (from gold efficiency pov you need 100 armor and 100 magic resist for every slice of 1500 hp beyond the first one). So with a flat spirit visage, you're at 2000hp, you're still good with only your starting 30 MR.
