Itemizing as Twisted Fate

Hello all, I'm a Bronze 1 Mid-Laner maining noob who is trying to pick up TwistedFate . I have some questions about general build order advice, as well as any other tips or tricks any of you guys may know about this champ. So any TF mains, or casual players feel free to drop your 2 cents in.

Anyway, onto the build. When first playing this guy, I tried the standard item 3100 rush into item 3089 item 3135 etc. But in practice, I found myself to be far too squishy, and had trouble last hitting. So to counter this, I tried out rushing two different items, namely item 3027 and item 3115 . The tooth almost seems like a no brainer, with all but one of TF's abilities proccing off of auto-attacks. The Rod of Ages also greatly increased my staying power in teamfights, and of course the 20% CDR from the Nashor's Tooth lets me get several card rotations in just one fight.

(TL;DR)So my questions are, why don't people ever get item 3027 or item 3115 on TwistedFate , and why do I get called a troll for anything other than rushing item 3100 ?

Generally, TF doesn't need to tank. As an AP burst mid laner, your goal is to utilize your ult efficiently and lock in the right card(Usually gold to stun) to kill the enemies and have global presence.

I rush item 3285 or item 3165 when I play TF. TF is a very long-ranged poking mage. Your ability to Q from afar is incredibly strong.

With ROA and Nashor's you are basically building TF as an AP Tank, in which you deal sustained damage over time, but that role could be easily taken by other champions more built for it (Cho, Naut, Vlad, Rumble, etc). TF is one of the mages that are expected to 100-0 squishies in 2 seconds with a locked card and Q.

The auto attack modifier is actually a bit of a trap. After seeing Kikis on UoL bring out TF jungle I started dabbling around attempting to find a way to utilize that ability, only to realize that the items I was building were detracting from the rest of TF's kit. The reason lichbane is always built is that it goes hand in hand with the burst, it strengthens your pick a card enhanced auto attacks with an extra auto attack enhancer. If you can line up the E to proc on auto attack as well, it's even more bursty and devastating when paired with your Q.

E is only there because one of his abilities works with auto attacks anyway, so it provides a bit of extra power with card count management.

I guess the best advice I could give would be to let E remain a passive ability.

Generally in most cases your better off with an athene's/morrello rush, as they both give you instant 20% cdr which allows you to roam.

Other choices in your build could either be item 3111, item 3158 oritem 3020. You will usually not need ninja tabi as if your against an AD mid, your supposed to rush zhonyas anyways. If your up against a strong anti-squishy such as leblanc try going abyssal scepter into merc treads, then building other items. Lich bane is usually a 2nd item, after one of those items and my boots. After I have morello/lich/boots then I go deathcap because that's when the passive actually becomes noticable, then after that I get voidstaff if the enemy has a lot of MR, otherwise I go zhonyas, especially if I really need the active. As a 6th item, I either go ludens (although better as a rush item but on Tf im not sure ) or twin shadows for the MS.

Ludens>Morello (or Athenes vs certain matchups)> Lich, with boots in there somewhere. Ludens is better for your damage than Lich at first, at the cost of a more awkward build path. Someone did the math on here sometime earlier...
